TAG: Get To Know Me

I’m going crazy with tags here lately. I mean, there are so many awesome tags! I found this one at this-is-my-truth-now. I love this blog. James has everything you could want in a blog and it’s organized and easy to navigate. From book reviews to a thought-provoking 365 day challenge. Be sure to check it out. New content daily!

Name: Mischenko

Nicknames: A nickname from school was Jade because I had this jade stone necklace that I used to wear all the time.

Birthday: September! My FAVORITE time of year due to fall.

Star Sign: Libra

Occupation: Self-employed.

Hair color: Brown

Hair length: Long

Eye Color: Mainly brown.

Best Feature: I’m going to say tallness, only because that seems to be a compliment I get. This has been something that I’ve had to learn to accept. Most people say that being tall is a positive thing, but it actually makes buying clothes more tricky and shoes, let’s not go there. I’m, so grateful for Amazon, no pun intended. Haha!

Braces: YES – I had them for nearly 5 years which started in 6th grade. It was NO fun.

Piercings:  Not now, but I used to have many.

Tattoos: None. Always wanted one though!

Right or Left: Right.

Real Holiday: I’m not even sure how to answer this one. I’m going with my first memorable Christmas.

Best Friend: My husband and my mom. They fully understand me and I could tell them anything.

Award: I haven’t received a lot of awards, but I was in band and received various medals during my high school years. The only real ‘award’ that I can remember getting was this 1st place award in elementary school for a scarecrow contest I did.

Sport: I was never into sports. In my high school you had to pick either band or sports, and I picked band. I did try basketball and track once though.

Concert: This is funny. My very first concert was Megadeth and Suicidal Tendencies in 1992. Don’t laugh. I can totally hear you laughing right now.giphy.gif

TV Show(s): Too many! I’ll go with what I’ve been into these past few years. Stranger Things, House of Cards, Bloodline, Poldark, Breaking Bad, The Americans, British Baking Show, Victory Garden, A Chef’s Life, Goliath, Old SNL, and so many more. I ❤ TV.

giphy (1).gif

More Kyle Chandler please!

Color: Dark colors in general. Purple, black, etc.

Songs: I think I’ve completely worn everyone out with my love for Chris Cornell, so I’ll branch out and choose some others!

This is such a powerful song by X Ambassadors. It makes me think about my dad. Especially with this video.

This version of “Hurt” by Johnny Cash is so powerful. Plus, I love this video of Logan.

I love this version. It’s such an instrumental song. Mark Lanegan has such a deep baritone voice, but my absolute favorite part in the song is at 1:25 when Layne comes in. I really miss him. So powerful…

Restaurant:  I really love Chili’s and any good Mexican restaurants.

Shop: Amazon and eBay. I also ❤ Costco, but mainly shop online. Deals!

Books: A few favorites this year are:

Dark Matter – Blake Crouch

Wintersong – S. Jae-Jones

The Wild Country – Bobby Underwood

Hearts Are Like Balloons – Candace Robinson

Until Tuesday –  Luis Carlos Montalván and Bret Witter

Tuesday’s Promise –  Luis Carlos Montalván

Everybody Loves Our Town:An Oral History of Grunge – Mark Yarm

Chevy Stevens – Never Let You Go

Shoes: Teva Mush Sandles! They are soooo comfortable. You can get them at Amazon.

Feeling: Sick with a summer cold.

Single or Taken: Married.

Eating: M&M’s – Yikes!

Thinking About: I’m thinking about the fact that I don’t have to water outside this morning because it rained last night.

Watching: I’m watching the WordPress screen. Haha.  Tonight I’m watching the last two episodes of The Iron Fist.

Wearing: It’s like 90 degrees outside. Summer attire.

Want Children: Have 5 children.

Want to be Married: Already married. 🙂

Careers in Mind: I have no careers in mind right now. I graduated from college years ago after studying computers and health information management.

Where You Want to Live: I would love to live up north in Maine, Minnesota, or Canada. I love the cold weather and snow. I don’t tolerate heat well.

God: Yes. I was raised Russian Orthodox and believe in the Holy Trinity.

Miracles: Yes, I do believe in miracles.

Love at first sight: I think it’s possible to feel like love at first sight, but it takes more time and is more complicated than that.

Ghosts: Maybe. Technically I haven’t seen one, but I’ve had some weird stuff go on around me before which wasn’t explainable. One time, in the evening, a piano key just played loudly on my piano and nobody was around. THAT was weird. I didn’t see it, I heard it along with my family. It was scary and the fact that everyone else heard it at the same time made it legit. FREAKY!

Aliens: Maybe? There are like 40 billion Earth size planets estimated that are habitable out there in Space. I definitely think it’s possible. Have you guys seen the movie “Signs?” I love that movie.

giphy (1).gif

Soul Mates: Yes, I believe it 100%.

Heaven: Yes. Of course there’s this experience I had when I lived in the city that haunts me. I had a Jehovah’s Witness come to my door and explain to me that when we die, we don’t go to heaven at that time. She told me that we don’t go to heaven until Jesus comes back to Earth. This is what the Scripture says, she pointed it out to me. I really just don’t know about that. I’ve studied people that have experienced NDE’s and I wonder about it. My great uncle passed away in the hospital multiple times and always came back telling us that he knew where he was going and wasn’t afraid to die. He’d seen it. That’s compelling.

it-came-upon-the-midnight-clear-1984b.jpgTalking about Heaven makes me think about one of my FAVORITE Christmas movie of all time – “It Came Upon The Midnight Clear” with Mickey Rooney. Have you guys seen it? Back when I was a kid, we only had local channels and you had to wait until Christmas for the movie to come on as it was a movie made for TV. Anyways, Mickey Rooney dies in the movie and goes to Heaven right before his plans to visit NYC at Christmas with his grandson. He wants his grandson to see NYC at Christmas time (another goal I have for myself). I don’t want to spoil it for those who might watch it. It’s hard to find and most DVD versions are copied from VHS tapes. You can watch the entire movie on YouTube for FREE.

Hell: Yeah, if you believe in Heaven you have to believe in Hell, right? Maybe Hell will be on Earth. Who knows, but I’m getting ready to start this book about Venus and the author’s theory is that Venus is Hell. I’ve never heard that one before!

Kissing on a first date: Maybe?

Yourself: Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. I definitely think that I can be socially challenged at times, so I guess it depends on what I’m doing. If I’m cooking, heck yeah I’m confident. If it comes down to playing my guitar and singing in front of someone, then I’m definitely less confident. It just depends on what the situation is.

I wasn’t tagged and won’t be tagging anyone for this, but if you like this, please consider yourself tagged! I love these personal tags because it helps me to get to know fellow bloggers. If you do this tag, please let me know so I can see your answers. Have an awesome day! ❤

Johnny Cash was always playing at my aunt’s and uncle’s house where I spent a lot of time when I was becoming a teenager. They were a few 2 to 7 years older than me due to my Grandmother’s second marriage. While they got his message, I just sat there wondering what all that twangy verse was about.

When I heard “Hurt” I hadn’t actually sat down and listened to him for years. From what I knew of his life (good biography please), the words and pain came out incredibly real. The redemption is his, but anyone can own it for themselves. Yes, there is a heaven and a hell, yet it’s how we deal and struggle with them here on earth that matters.

I have been working on a project that takes me to the Dominican Republic on and off for six months. The allure of the culture and tropical paradise is strong. I thought I might want to live there! During my last trip, however, I dearly wanted to put on a coat and knit hat and take a walk in winter.

Don’t feel embarrassed about Suicidal Tendencies. I would have seen them given the chance.

    1. Oh Yeah, believe it or not, my grandpa listened to Johnny Cash and when I was young, I didn’t particularly like it. As I got older, I learned to appreciate his music. I actually prefer this version of “Hurt” over the original by NIN.

Thanks for sharing all of your story and thoughts. It’s very interesting! I’ve never been to the Dominican Republic, but I’m sure it’s beautiful. I could only imagine. I do appreciate summer and warmer climates, but I definitely have to have my winters too. 😉

It’s too funny because I loved ST at one point in my life. It’s one of the bands I’ve grown away from I guess. I still like them though. ❤ Thanks for commenting!

  2. Awesome post Jen! It was great getting to learn more about you! My first concert was KISS in 1976 in Madison square Garden in NYC and I was thrilled. I went with a boy who I grew up with on my street. When he dropped me off after, he tried to kiss me and I pushed him down the front stairs! Haha haha

    Have a great weekend!!

    1. Lol! Oh my gosh, you must have an awesome voice. I’ve never sung that one out loud without it blaring. Haha, I love Sam Harris though.

Regular m&m’s. I have to stop eating these things. I was reading an author last year that turned me on to putting them in the freezer and eating them frozen. Gosh! They’re so good. 😀

Thanks for reading the tag, Lana! Hope we can chat soon. ❤

  3. Fantastic read. Glad you did the tag. I didn’t realize you had 5 children… wow! I thought 2 or 3 from previous conversations. How do you have time to do anything?

Let’s see… so much to comment on. I’ll pick only 2 so I don’t take up too much of your comment space. I hope your cold goes away soon. No fun to be sick in the heat. And I love the British Baking show. I’ve got 2 episodes left on the Netflix version from a prior season… Nadiya, Iain, Flora, Paul… some names in it. Don’t want to say much more as people might still be watching it and I don’t want to give it away. But that should tell you which season! 🙂

    1. Thanks, James! Everyone asks that same question and I’ll say that it isn’t easy. I cut into my sleep hours often, lol!

I saw that you liked the British Baking Show! That’s cool. We love it. It comes on our PBS channel on the weekends so, we watch whatever season they’re showing. They finally added it to Netflix and I’m grateful for that! ❤ I love Paul and Mary. I think it's so cool how Paul likes to use his hands versus Mary who tends to prefer the appliances, lol. I'm a little of both I guess. You'll have to let me know what recipes you make. We could do a James/Jenn cook off. That would be fun. Haha 😉

My cold is much better today. Thanks for your kind wishes. 😉 I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

5 kids!! I don’t blame you for not wanting to have anymore. You must feed them well with your awesome breakfasts! There a bunch of shows on your list I will definitely have to check out! I’m a Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Showtime, Starz and stuff in between junkie, lol.

    1. Lol! You’ll have to let me know what you’re watching! We finished Black Sails recently, but I wasn’t psyched about the last season. Love me some Outlander though! 😉 Have you done this tag yet? ❤

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Nel

I tried Black Sails. It was supposed to be my Da Vinci’s Demons replacement but I don’t think I finished season 1. I love Outlander as well! Also, American Gods is quite interesting. I have not done this tag yet, no.

        Liked by 1 person

    2. Yeah, I barely got through season 1. It was like all about the brothel and just not enough going on. I want to watch American Gods bad, but set a goal to read the book first. People are saying good things about it. Glad you like it! 😉 Thanks for sharing.

  5. Great tag!! If I get caught up, I definitely want to do this one…I saw it on Jay’s site and thought the same thing 🙂 I love your answers! Johny Cash is great; my grandmother was always listening to him and Hurt is an awesome song. Poldark!! That is one of my favorite shows! I can’t wait for season three! I’ve read all the books, but the show is so much better but that could possibly be because of Aiden Turner, sigh!!I’m desperately waiting for Outlander to start in the fall too! Such great shows! American Gods is fantastic. It is one show I was able to get my husband to watch with me, which is really rare! I definitely recommend watching it 🙂 I hope your cold is gone and you feel better ❤ ❤

    1. Stephanie, we must get together and chat! I think we have a lot in common. 😉

I’m watching American Gods soon. I really wanted to read the book first. Aiden Turner, oh my. Yes, so true. Kili is my favorite character in The Hobbit and he is it! Gotta love that. 😉 Totally amped up for season 3! We’re going to have to chat between episodes, lol!

I hope you do the tag! I actually think this tag is very personal and I went back and took some info off my answers. I guess I’m weird. Hehehe 😉 I’ll watch for yours. ❤ Thanks for sharing!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh yes! I think we do too!!
I love Aiden Turner in the Hobbit or in anything, lol! He is just perfect, lol!! I can’t wait for season three!!! We will see Demelza in a new light if they follow the books 🙂 I adore Demelza! And yes, we have to chat between episodes!!

I will definitely do the tag…after I catch up on about 4 others I have to do and 3 awards, lol. Or I may just do them as I feel like it, lol. And oh the book reviews I need to do, hahaha! I’m just going to pile a bunch into one huge mini review post and call it a day I think! Especially the ones that I have not really enjoyed that much, ugh!! Save my 5 star books for full reviews and save time!

I like the personal aspect of the tag! I want to start getting more personal with my blog and have been tossing around ideas. It was meant to be a bit of this and that when I started it, with stuff about family, etc, but I got so caught up with all the books I had to read that I had no time to post anything else, lol. I’m actually glad that I had my time off and am changing my schedule to less posting, etc. It will give me time to think about what I want to post besides books, etc. 🙂

Oh, I edit my posts all the time, lol. You are not weird!! I will do it to tags and reviews!! Especially with reviews, lol. I’ll go back and freak out because there was something wrong with where I put a comma and start to rewrite sentences, lol!! I’m way weirder… 😉 ❤

    2. Exactly! I’m wondering if they’ll elaborate on Elizabeth’s child because they really didn’t in the books. Interesting. 😉 I want to start the poldark saga all over again. I love the books too!

I like personal tags too, but I offered too much info I think-years married and number of kids. Is that stuff necessary? I’d like your thoughts on that. I don’t mind sharing with people I’m getting to know, but opening up to the whole world on the internet is such a challenge for me. I’m getting better though.

How funny. I can’t tell you how many typos I miss, lol! I love the edit button. I do wish we could edit comments because I’ve errored a few times on those. OCD much? Hehehe.

I’m so glad we connected! Thanks for sharing with me. 😄👍💗💗💗

      1. I doubt they will! I think they will make it like the books although I can see Delmelza blabbing to everyone, lol. And slapping Ross again..oh I loved that scene!!! The books are so good!

I don’t think you gave too much info, lol. I would have done the same thing! I don’t know how many times in a random tag or comment that I have mentioned having 3 kids, their ages, how long I’ve been married, etc. I don’t mind sharing; I just have to remind myself this is the internet and to just be careful because my problem has always been oversharing, lol. I’m an introvert but if I like you, then I will tell you anything and everything hahaha

OMG, I would love an edit button for comments!! OCD is the perfect word!! I live to edit, lol. You should see me with school papers, lol.

I’m so glad we are too!! I love having more than just book connections with the people I meet on here 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤

        Liked by 1 person

    3. Oh my gosh, exactly! Oversharing. I’m totally the same. Too funny!

You sound just like me about Demelza! Honestly, the slap wasn’t enough though, right? I would’ve died. I seriously would have died! She went way to easy on him, lol! Hehehe 😂

      Liked by 1 person

      1. LOL! I’m terrible with oversharing. Even in public; my husband will stare at me like shut the eff up….no one cares, lol. I will be teaching and get caught up just telling my life stories..my students love it because I just wasted 30 min, hahaha

Ross is lucky he isn’t my husband!! But damn, she got him good!! I was like go Demelza!! She floored him! She should have done more though why he was on the ground. And oh, if I wouldn’t have punched that smile off Elizabeth the next time I saw her. Ugh! I hate her. And she is not prettier than Delmeza. I’m not sure what all the fuss is about, lol.

        Liked by 1 person

    4. Hahaha! Exactly like me. It takes me awhile, but once I warm up, you’ll hear it all, lol.

Exactly about Elizabeth. I was like, seriously? After she was with Ross and ran into Demelza with that snooty look! She has no shame! It was weird because I wanted Demelza and Ross to be together, but then not because of what he did. What I love is how the characters change over time. It’s such an amazing series.

The last season I cheated and watched the episodes on YouTube. Have you tried that? There’s a person that uploads them but they’re smaller. I’ll try to be patient this year. Outlander is another one. I’m obsessed with that show but want to read the next book first. I had a serious issue with the Black Jack Randall scene last season! Ugh. That was hard. I wanted to see Jamie put him out once and for all. Lol. I can go on and on. Lol. 😀

      1. Lol…it’s like wait…do these people care about this??? What really drives my hubby nuts is when I pull out the labor and delivery or pregnancy stories when I’m with a group of moms, lol!! He turns a funny color but then they all start sharing and I’m like see!!! 😂

I know, I wanted slap Elizabeth. She deserves George. I don’t know. I hate what Ross did, but I still like them together especially after Demelza gets him back later on. It’s like karma. And true to life how marriages change over time. I’ve been married since I was 20 and we’ve had crazy bumps…nothing like that or he’d be dead…but it’s so interesting to look back on how things have grown and changed in 20 yrs. Just like the characters on Poldark…amazing writing.

No, I haven’t cheated and done that! I’m tempted too now, lol. But I’ll be good. I love Outlander. It’s just as good as the books!! Thankfully, I’m caught up with the books and waiting impatiently for the next one! I know! I hate Black Jack!! It’s hard watching scenes with him. Brilliant actor though…😊❤
