Heidi’s Questions:

1. What are your top three book genres? ย

Non-fiction, Memoir, Retellings.

2. If you could choose a song lyric and/or quote to describe your life, what would it be?

“River of Deceit” by Mad Season. This entire song sums up how I feel when someone tries to tell me to be something I’m not, which has happened numerous times in my life. Like Layne, I’ve struggled for different reasons, but I won’t lose myself trying to be what someone else wants me to be. You either drown in the lies, or swim to shore and live. I did a post on this song and talked a little bit about Layne’s inspiration for this song if you’d like to learn more about it, Click HERE.

Main Lyrics:

My pain… is self-chosen
At least so the prophet says
I could either burn
Or cut off my pride and buy some time
A head full of lies is the weight
Tied to my waist
The river of deceit pulls down
The only direction we flow is down
Down, oh down
ย ___
My pain… is self-chosen
At least I believe it to be
I could either drown
Or pull off my skin and swim to shore
Now I can grow a beautiful
Shell for all to see
The river of deceit pulls down
The only direction we flow is down
Down, oh down

3.Ten years ago, what was your favorite singer/group/band?

Too many to list, but I’ll go with Audioslave.

4. If you could meet anyone, fictional or not, who would it be and why?

I’d love to meet Gandalf. I love his magic and wisdom. He’s a favorite character.

5.What was your earliest memory?

One very early memory is getting stuck on a teeter-totter swing. I went so high that the teeter-totter seat got stuck on the back of a high fence and I was alone!

6. Which book turned you into a booklover?

I used to have these little books with records when I was 5 or so. I had a small portable record player that I would use to listen to them. One of my favorites was Hansel and Gretel which isย pictured below.ย I just remember listening to them all the time and I looked forward to it. I’ve since repurchased many of them for my own kids to enjoy. Here’s a picture of my collection below, including the original Hansel and Gretel.

7. Do you have a collection? If so, what is it? If not, what would you collect?

I like collecting books, Funko figures and snow globes. I also like collecting Groot.

8. Have you ever traveled to a foreign country (foreign to you)? If so, which country? If not, where would you like to go?

No, and I don’t care to right now, but maybe later on. I’d love to visit Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, Russia & Syria where my ancestors are from, and Canada.

9. How often, and how long, do you read?

Every spare second I have I try to spend reading. I read more at night most days because it’s more quiet.

10. Do you prefer e-books or physical books? Why?

I like both. I’ve always been a physical book lover, but I also love reading on my tablet. The dictionary feature is such an advantage. Plus, highlighting and taking notes is awesome, especially when reading complicated fantasy.

11. Would you prefer to spend the day in the mountains or the beach? Why?

Wow, this is hard. I love the beach in summer and grew up on Lake Michigan, but I’m going to say mountains at this point in my life.

  1. Wow, what a nice introduction! Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it! Getting stuck on a teeter-totter swing alone? Geez, that is not a very pleasant earliest memory. I love your Groot collection – adorable! I read every spare second, too! Great answers and thank you sharing. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You’re very welcome! Thanks for the nomination. Yes, the teeter totter deal was scary, but my mom came to the rescue.

Thanks so much for your kind words! Looking forward to learning more about You! โ™ก

  2. Great bands!! But you knew I was going to say that. I can’t believe you have five kids and you home school them, you must have the patience of a saint! It’s a shame you don’t like aeroplanes, I guess I will have to come visit you sometime, I love flying! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Claire, you’re such a sweetheart! Thanks so much for reading. The kids are a handful but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I would love to visit, but yeah, no planes for me, haha. Maybe one day! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿค—

  3. David R. Dowdy

Another great nomination. Good luck, you deserve it with all the work you put into your blog!

The slow pacing of the music and lyrics in River of Deceit is what grips me.
The river of deceit pulls down.
The only direction we flow is down.

Then ominous, Down, oh down. Layne’s voice carries an inevitable chord of fright. It’s heart breaking that he knows what’s happening and can’t stop it.

    1. Dave, thanks, and you are exactly right. He did know, but sadly he didn’t get the help he needed. I know he spent months locked up at home and just completely removed himself from the world. It’s sad and depresses me just thinking about it. Sometimes people just can’t get over events in their lives whether it be their childhood or losing someone, etc. Same with Andy, Kurt, Chris, Scott, Chester, and so many others. I’ll never judge them for it, because I understand that we all handle things differently. I guess that’s a post for another day.

      Thank you for sharing. โ™ก

  4. GANDALF! Perfect choice! And what dedication to homeschool your children! I so admire you ๐Ÿ˜ I’d read with a Loki any day!? Funky figures are so cool! I want to collect those too…

BTW Thanks for nominating me! โ™ฅ๏ธ I’ll have fun with your questions (though I’m so behind on these I will get to them ๐ŸŒˆ)

    1. Thanks, Dani. You’re so uplifting. Thank you for that! ๐Ÿ’— Yes, there are so many figures! Haha, I love them.

You’re so welcome, and no pressure. I don’t like bogging people down with these, but they’re so fun. ๐Ÿ˜„ I’ll enjoy reading your answers. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘

    1. Aww! Thanks so much! How kind of you to say that! โค I don't think these awards are actual nominations for anything really, I'm pretty sure they're just tags, right? Heehee ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope I'm not missing something there…
