Throwback Thursday – August 10th

Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme created by Renee @ It’s Book Talk. This meme is an awesome way to share favorites that were published over a year ago or even books that you’re finally reading after much time has passed. I have plenty of those to share! If you have your own Throwback Thursday recommendation feel free to jump on board, and you’re welcome to use Renee’s pic as well. If you’d just link back to her@It’s Book Talk she’d so appreciate it!

I’ve been seeing this one around for a while now and became inspired by my friend Noriko@DiaryofaBookfiend this morning after she picked a book that really brought back some memories. I thought it would be fun to bring back a book from last year that I enjoyed. This is my first Throwback Thursday and I chose a book that will always be a favorite. I hope that you might find an interest in it as well.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Blurb: The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

My Thoughts:

Jamie McGuire is one of my favorite authors and Beautiful Disaster has to be one of my favorite books. I still remember the first time I read it six years ago or so. I’ve read it more than once if that tells you anything.

The story is about a girl named Abby who’s your typical good girl type. She meets Travis who is just the type of guy she would normally avoid, but she can’t. Travis winds up falling for her immediately. He makes a bet with her and if she loses, she must live with Travis for a month. The chemistry between Travis and Abby is intoxicating. She acts as though she can’t stand him, but inside she’s falling for him too.

Travis comes off as a total bad boy and that’s probably what I liked about his character. He seems aggressive at times, but I believe this is the author’s way of showing how protective he is over Abby.

I loved it. I love the writing and it’s a super quick read that I didn’t want to put down. I think one of the reasons I liked it so much is because it reminds me of the types of books I enjoyed reading when I was much younger. This book is what made Jamie McGuire one of my favorite authors from the start. I really like all the Maddox brothers, but Travis is my fave…

    1. There are mixed reviews on it for sure, Nel. Some people hate it so much, mainly because they hate Travis. I didn’t see things the way they did, but understand why they felt that way. Let me know what you think about it if you read it! 😉 ♡
