One Lovely Blog Award #2 – Music Edition

collage-2017-09-21 (1)

I was nominated by TheOrangutanLibrarian for the One Lovely Blog Award. I admire the way this award was done as a “music” edition, and because I’ve done this award before, I thought I’d stick with the music edition and share 7 musical facts about myself. I’d like to thank The Orangutan Librarian for nominating me! If you haven’t checked out this blog yet, please do! You’ll find many book reviews, book lists, tags, awards, and more.

  1. Each nominee must THANK the person who nominated them and link their blog in the post.
  2. They must include the rules and add the blog award badge as an image.
  3. Must add 7 facts about themselves and then nominate 15 people.

~7 Musical Facts About Me~

#1 – When I was a kid, my room was pink and I despised it. I covered as much as I could with posters from my favorite bands along with other embellishments to try and make my room look cool. Music was pretty much my life and I enjoyed listening to it and creating my own.

#2 – As you can see in the photo above, I had colored my hair blue. Of course, now, it’s nothing to see someone with colored hair, but back then it was still very rare in my community. My best friend and I used to love hanging out at this store in Chi-town called The Alley, which is where my love for hair dye started. I was the first person in my school to color my hair a different color and my band teacher was very upset with me because we had a concert coming up.

Wow, she was extremely upset. Looking back now, I do feel bad about it! She was my favorite teacher and I really respected her, I just wanted to color my hair blue! She actually teaches at a local university and I ran into her a few times when I was in college. She doesn’t seem to be mad about it anymore. πŸ™‚ Phew!

#3 – I listen to nearly every music genre, but my favorite will probably always be grunge and I’ve been told that I’m still living in the 90s.

A few favorites from the 90s:

#4 – When I was a child, my grandfather would sing songs to me out of this Reader’s Digest Songbook which I still have. I think this is where my love for music started.

#5 – When I was in high school band, we went downstate for competition and I won various awards including this really cool Musicianship Award.

#6 – I discovered a music group called Walk Off the Earth last year. I adore them and find them extremely creative. If you haven’t seen them before, check out this video! It’s amazing. They play a cover of the song “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye using only one instrument!

#7 We went to see Shrek the Musical a while back. It was amazing! It was my first live musical and I was in awe the entire time. We were able to take pictures with the cast afterward which was really fun for the kids to get to meet everyone. It was such a fun experience.

My Nominee’s:

This is for the One Lovely Blog Award and doesn’t have to be this music edition that was modified. Many people don’t want to do awards, and that’s fine too! Just know that you were nominated. ❀

What types of music do you like? Have you been to any musicals?

Thanks for reading!

I don’t care what anybody says, I still like Wonderwall. Speaking of the blue hair (wow!), it’s funny how we used to piss off adults with the things we did! So cool.

    1. I play a few actually: piano, guitar, and violin to name the main ones. It’s hard to find the time these days though. πŸ˜‰

I had a hard time choosing between Happy and Somebody That I Used to Know. Happy is amazing! This is such a creative group of people. ❀ Thanks for sharing your thoughts. πŸ˜‰

The 90’s is was the epic era of music! It’s also when the good stuff started to die unfortunately. Thanks for the nomination! This will definitely be fun! Also LOVE Walk off the Earth. I discovered them right before Pentatonix and I just adore these acapella groups πŸ™‚

I really enjoyed the videos. Can’t believe that is a pic of you in your room. Lol. I remember what you went through with Ms. G. I like ‘Walk Off The Earth’. Very different! Unique!

  4. Oh we are so similar! That picture of you in your room could so easily have been me, I shared with my sister who was such a girly girl and won the “what wallpaper do we have” debate so pink it was, which I promptly covered with posters all over my side of the room. I don’t have any pictures because there are literally no photo’s of me as a child/teen but it’s uncanny how similar our rooms looked!

I have done this before, but I like the music edition idea so I will give it a go!

    1. Claire, thanks for sharing that. It had to be hard sharing a room! I’m glad you were able to endure it. πŸ˜‰ We have so many similarities and I love that. πŸ’•

I cannot wait to see your post! I’m glad that many have chosen to keep it music related. I though it was unique the way it was switched up. It keeps it interesting.

      Have a great weekend! β€πŸ’œπŸ’š

  5. Thanks for the nomination! As a former band director, I can say that I would have been pretty mad if you dyed your hair blue right before a concert, but not nearly as mad as I would have been if you had dyed it right before a marching competition! My musical facts are going to be VERY different from yours, lol.
