Music Monday: Alice In Chains “Nutshell”

Music Monday

This meme was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song that you really like and share it on Monday. I’m having so much fun with this meme and look forward to sharing a new song every Monday.

This week’s song pick is:

Alice In Chains

I’ve had a rough week with a few unexpected events that I’m struggling to get past and just about the only thing I feel like I can do to help myself is listen to music. I know I’ve mentioned this song on previous posts before, but Alice In Chains is a fave and this is just one of my go-to songs. I chose this song because it’s been a favorite since the moment I heard it for the first time, it’s written by Layne Staley, whom I miss dearly, and it helps me release my emotions. It’s one of my best loved songs of all time.

We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight
And yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home

My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can’t be my own
I’d feel better dead

This song is from the album “Jar of Flies” released in 1994.

Thanks for checking out this week’s Music Monday and have a great week.

Alice in Chains is great choice and I’m sorry your week isn’t going too good at the moment. I’m in the same boat. Must be something in the air eh? I hope things get better for you though 🙂

    1. Thanks, Nel. I’m sorry to hear it! It must be in the air. I hope everything gets better for you this week.

I wrote everything out in a post, but haven’t published it and don’t think I will. I’m afraid I’ll lose too many followers, lol. Trying to stay positive. ❤

We are exactly alike! I did the same thing and then I was like, maybe people are not prepared for that side of me so I posted the book reviews instead. I feel the trying to stay positive part as well. If you need to rant to me in email, go for it. Sometimes it helps just talking it out in general you know?

Such a short song with so much to say. I didn’t know too much about Alice in Chains as a group. So sorry to hear that the lead singer, Layne Staley, passed away at such a young age. Music makes the world go around. 🐦

    1. Thanks so much, David. I did end up writing up a post about it because it was bothering me. I feel better today and I know with time it will just keep getting better. I appreciate your kindness. ❤

  4. Ah man – This song hits home for me. The first Alice album I listened to was Jar of Flies, and I had no prior knowledge of who they were and their usual sound. Staley’s voice pierced me like a knife. This song got me through a lot of hard times. I’m glad to see that it deeply affects other people. Take care!
