This week’s song pick is:
Chris Cornell and daughter Toni Cornell
“Redemption Song”
-Lyrics-
Artist: Bob Marley
Old pirates, yes, they rob I
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
Have no fear for atomic energy
‘Cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look? Ooh
Some say it’s just a part of it
We’ve got to fulfill the Book
Have no fear for atomic energy
‘Cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look? Ooh
Some say it’s just a part of it
We’ve got to fulfill the Book
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy
‘Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it’s just a part of it
We’ve got to fulfill the book
Won’t you have to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever had

All I ever had

‘Cause all I ever had

Redemption songs
These songs of freedom

I’ve always liked the lyrics to ‘Redemption Song’. I wonder if his daughter will continue in his footsteps and continue to sing. They sang well together. 💜

Cool choice, Ah, Chris, such a loss of talent and a shame he isn’t still with us.😞

I agree, Drew. It is very sad and unfortunate. Too many awesome artists are gone. ❤

I was curious about the use of the pronoun ‘I’ and found Rastafarians used I, me, we, us, etc., interchangeably for inclusion. When I is substituted with us, the above lyrics are much more profound and meaningful. Of course, they would have known that.

I was reading about it and supposedly it’s supposed to mean something like ‘oneness under God’ meaning people as a whole? I don’t know much about it, but it’s interesting. Here’s a link that explains where Marley got the ideas in the song.

Thanks for pointing that out, David. You learn something new everyday! 💜😉
