I came across this wonderful 12 Days of Christmas Blog Challenge over at Abbey’s blog threecatsandagirl. It was originally introduced by abbeycoseattle when she presented it earlier this month. As soon as I saw this, I knew that it would be so much fun. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for to share some Christmas cheer on my blog. I’d like to say thanks to both of these wonderful ladies!

12 Days of Christmas
For my third day I’m going with #8. Angel or star tree topper?
Growing up, my grandmother always put a star on our Christmas trees. She used the same one here in this picture below.
I love that the star on top of the tree symbolizes the star of Bethlehem from the Nativity and we’ve always stuck with it. I do adore angels on trees whenever I see them and we might try doing that for a change one Christmas.
Every year since 2006 I’ve had LED lights on my tree. We are huge energy conservationists, but last year, our LED star took a dump and lost half its color. So, this year, I ended up purchasing a basic incandescent lighted star. Here it is below.
I have to admit that I’ll never lose my admiration for traditional Christmas lighting. It has the most beautiful glow. This year, I cheated and added in some clear traditional along with red LED lights and LED color changing globes.
There are some beautiful LED lights out there, but they just aren’t the same to me.
I believe we always had an angel when I was younger and we always used regular incandescent lights cause I don’t think LED was out yet. Thank you for sharing these pictures! The star is beautiful! Both of them 😁

Us too on the lighting. My grandmother loved bubble lights and I have a few of those around the house too. I was so surprised at Menards to see that most of what they had were still incandescent! People were buying them like crazy. I just love the traditional colors though. ❤ Are you guys going to put up a tree this year? Thanks for sharing, Nel. 🎄

Nope. Not this year cause I plan on doing a lot of painting that week. I’ll be off for 10 days so taking advantage 😁

Yeah it’s long over due. We’ve lived here a bit over a year and never painted yet so I can’t wait! Lol

It’s a lovely star!!🌟 I do like that it reminds me of the star of Bethlehem when Jesus came to earth. A great reminder of the reason we have Christmas! ⭐️ mine goes up tomorrow and I’ve got another option I threw in!😳

I honestly go with a star because it’s cheaper lol and I love stars but I love your pics! I love all these holiday posts for the season!😊

I prefer a star because it’s a giver of light. You never know about angels. They can be good and bad.

We have always had an angel. She has a porcelain face and a white silk dress which is lit from beneath – and she has two lit candles in her hands.
Some LED lights are good, others not so much.
I don’t like the white ones that seem more blue than white.
I do like the white ones that have a yellowish glow.
Merry Christmas!

Your angel sounds beautiful. I agree on the white LEDs. I just can’t get used to them! ❤ Thanks so much for sharing. 🤗🎄 Merry Christmas to you too!

We’ve had stars, angels and one year my husband created this fancy ribbon cascade thing that he was never able to re-create. lol. I honestly can’t decide which one I like more between the star and the angel. I like the symbolism of both.

I like them both too! I didn’t even think of ribbons. I love the way those look too. ❤🎄 Thanks for sharing. 😊

My place right now is too small for a bigger tree so I only put up a small 2ft tabletop tree with no topper, but when we had our house we had a 6ft black artificial tree and because neither of us are religious we didn’t want a star or angel so found this really cool purple moose with wings so he was always on top of our tree. We still have him and usually get him out anyway even though we don’t have a tree for him to sit on just because he’s so cool!

Claire, I freaking love your new pic! That’s so awesome. Love the hair color too. 😚
A moose sounds perfect. Especially a purple one with wings! That’s my favorite animal amd color, lol. We had a cast iron moose steamer on our wood burning stove, but then it rusted. 😣 I need to find another.
Thanks for sharing your story! ❤💚❤

Omg how cool is that?! We totally stumbled across our moose in a random store but we love it so much!
And thank you, it was time for a change from the red/orange hair! I’m still adjusting but I like it.

I just love your tree… it is so beautiful!! I remember begging my Grandma to buy me a christmas tree (artificial one). I love white christmas lights, but traditional ones bring back so many childhood memories ❤ As for the topper, that's a hard choice! I like both an angel and a star! lol

Thank you, Noriko. You are so sweet! Traditional are the best to me too. I love some of the new LEDs, but the traditional remind me of when I was kid and my love for Christmas. I like angels too. ❤ Hope you have a great day!

Great pictures. For years I had a star at the top of my Christmas tree. About three years ago, I bought a beautiful angel tree topper on sale and have used it ever since.
