Steve Irwin was a Australian zookeeper and conservationist who’s life was sadly cut short when he passed in 2006 after an encounter with a Stingray. Today would be Steve Irwin’s 56th birthday.
I can still remember the first time I saw Steve Irwin on Animal Planet and how my family fell in love with his enthusiasm for wildlife. He quickly became a favorite.
To honor Steve Irwin today, I thought I’d post a clip of one of our favorite episodes with Steve exploring Komodo dragons. I’ll never forget my oldest son’s excitement as Steve ran next to the Komodo as he followed him. This isn’t the whole episode, but you can watch it for free on YouTube if you’d like.
Steve and the Dragon
Our family were huge fans of his. Thank you for reminding us.

Aww, we loved Steve! My hubby and I both cried when he died (don’t tell him I told you that!). He was such a wonderful man…<3 Thanks for sharing this Jenn! Hugs!

Aww! We were so upset too! 😦 He touched so many and will never be forgotten. It took us a long time to get over it too and we still miss him so much. Our goal is to visit the zoo eventually.
Thanks for your thoughts, Stephanie. I hope all is well with you and your family. Big hugs back. 😀 ❤

Oh, going to the zoo would be amazing!! I never thought of that; I hope you guys get to visit one day!
Kayley is over her flu complications and back to school this week…I’m praying she doesn’t get sick anytime soon since it seems like she has been sick back to back all fall/winter (she’s missed 18 days of school and it’s just Feb, ugh!). My son is feeling a lot better after his accident and just has a minor headache now, thank God! I ended up with pneumonia following the flu, so that’s not been any fun. I almost anticipated since I had pneumonia last year after the flu and with such a weakened immune system. So yeah, I’ve been sick pretty much the entire month..joy! My birthday was this week, and we had plans with family that had to be canceled thanks to me being sick, but I hope to be better by Mar 2 so we can “celebrate” then! Anyway…I hope you’re doing okay!! Every time I have time to chat with you, it’s really late at night…I think you are an hour behind me though (I’m EST)? Let me know! And what time you’re usually up and around at night since I’m usually not asleep until around midnight my time!! Hugs! ❤

I’m so glad you guys are better! I can’t believe you had pneumonia again. So sorry! Ugh, it’s been a hard winter. Yes I am actually behind you an hour. You can always message though because it won’t wake me if I’m sleeping. 😉 Would love to chat! Miss you! Take care. 💗

I loved this man & his enthusiasm. The way he treated animals was how it should be. He was so kind and I learned so much from him! He is definitely one of the greatest and I am happy to see that his son seems to be just like him 🙂

I feel the same and how amazing that his son looks so much like him and even acts and sounds like him. He loves animals just like his dad. It’s heartwarming. No doubt how proud he is of his kids and wife. 💙 Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Take care!

I love that guy. We had a pet emu that we named after him. He was just so enthusiastic and energetic. It was really inspiring. Wish he were still around.
Happy birthday, Steve. I’m sure you’re wrestling crocodiles in the great outback in the sky.

He was definitely super cool and had a bit of influence on my love of animals. Have you seen his son? He frequents Jimmy Fallon and brings animals on to educate the audience. He’s just like his dad! Same enthusiasm and everything! I’m glad his legacy lives on. 😁

Yes! His son is amazing. I remember mentioning him and sharing a video on one of your posts (sloth maybe?) but can’t remember which one it was. I’m just amazed by him.
It feels like just yesterday that he left us. I can’t believe it’s been 12 years. He is still such an inspiration and I love that his kids are so much like him. 💗 Thanks, Nel.

Aww, I miss watching him. I’ve seen his kids on TV a couple times, his son most recently, and they’ve got the same sort of passion and excitement for wildlife that their father did. It’s touching and so cool to see his legacy continue on. 🙂

This is so nice! I always enjoyed seeing him on TV, and his sheer enthusiasm and love for everything he talked about. I was just thinking about him for the first time in a while, because in the book series I just finished (Newsflesh by Mira Grant), bloggers who put themselves in dangerous situations with the local wildlife (zombies) are known as “Irwins”, in honor of Steve Irwin!
