I finally went to the movie theater to watch Black Panther with my family. In the winter we only have one traditional theater close and it’s super old, like from 1936, but it always turns out to be a fun experience even without the stadium seating or huge screen. Right off the rip, I was greeted by this super cool slushy machine with the flavor titled ‘Panther Power’.

I have to say that for the first 30 minutes or so I was thinking I might not like the movie, then it picked up with a ton of action and it kept my interest all the way the end. I really enjoyed the little bits of comedy and I thought the acting was spot on. There were a few quibbles for me, but for the most part I was pleased. Honestly, I was worried that the movie might’ve been over-hyped, but most of my family loved it too. It’s noticeable now that some people are leaving it negative reviews, but I would just suggest that you see it for yourselves and make your own judgement. 🙂

The soundtrack is quite awesome and it was hard to choose just one song, so here are my two most favorite songs on the movie soundtrack for today’s Music Monday.

This Week’s Pick:

“All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA

Lyrics:

[Pre-Chorus: Kendrick Lamar]
Love, let’s talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you?
I know the feeling haunt you

[Chorus: SZA]
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars approach you, all the stars approach you, all the stars approach you
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer

[Verse 1: Kendrick Lamar]
Tell me what you gon’ do to me
Confrontation ain’t nothin’ new to me
You can bring a bullet, bring a sword, bring a morgue
But you can’t bring the truth to me
Fuck you and all your expectations
I don’t even want your congratulations
I recognize your false confidence
And calculated promises all in your conversation
I hate people that feel entitled
Look at me crazy ’cause I ain’t invite you
Oh, you important?
You the moral to the story? You endorsin’?
Mothafucka, I don’t even like you
Corrupt a man’s heart with a gift
That’s how you find out who you dealin’ with
A small percentage who I’m buildin’ with
I want the credit if I’m losin’ or I’m winnin’
On my momma, that’s the realest shit

[Pre-Chorus: Kendrick Lamar]
Love, let’s talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you?
I know the feeling haunt you

[Chorus: SZA]
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars approach you, all the stars approach you, all the stars approach you
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer

[Verse 2: SZA]
Skin covered in ego
Get to talkin’, I get involved, like a rebound
No control, no off switch
And the way that you bringin’ me down
It’s a turn on, get it away from me
Know you mean wrong, keep away from me
And it’s all wrong, get it away from me, yeah
I, I just cry for no reason
I just pray for no reason
I just thank for the life, for the day
For the hours and another life breathin’
I did it all ’cause it feel good
You could live it all if you feel bad
Better live your life, we were runnin’ out of time

[Pre-Chorus: Kendrick Lamar & SZA]
Love, let’s talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?

Or do the feeling haunt you?
I know the feeling haunt you

[Chorus: SZA]
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars approach you, all the stars approach you, all the stars approach you
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer

“Pray For Me” by The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar

[Intro]
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

[Verse 1: The Weeknd]
I’m always ready for a war again
Go down that road again
It’s all the same
I’m always ready to take a life again
You know I’ll ride again
It’s all the same (ooh, ooh, ooh)
Tell me who’s gon’ save me from myself
When this life is all I know
Tell me who’s gon’ save me from myself
Without you, I’m all alone

[Chorus: The Weeknd]
Who gon’ pray for me?
Take my pain for me?
Save my soul for me?
‘Cause I’m alone, you see
If I’m gon’ die for you
If I’m gon’ kill for you
Then I spilled this blood for you, hey

[Verse 2: Kendrick Lamar]
I fight the world, I fight you, I fight myself
I fight God, just tell me how many burdens left
I fight pain and hurricanes, today I wept
I’m tryna fight back tears, flood on my doorsteps
Life a livin’ hell, puddles of blood in the streets
Shooters on top of the building, government aid ain’t relief
Earthquake, the body dropped, the ground breaks
The poor run with smoke lungs and Scarface
Who need a hero? (Hero)
You need a hero, look in the mirror, there go your hero
Who on the front lines at ground zero? (Hero)
My heart don’t skip a beat, even when hard times bumps the needle
Mass destruction and mass corruption
The souls of sufferin’ men
Clutchin’ on deaf ears again, rapture is comin’
It’s all prophecy and if I gotta be sacrificed for the greater good
Then that’s what it gotta be

[Chorus: The Weeknd]
Who gon’ pray for me?
Take my pain for me?
Save my soul for me?
‘Cause I’m alone, you see
If I’m gon’ die for you
If I’m gon’ kill for you
Then I spilled this blood for you, hey

[Bridge: The Weeknd]
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey

[Chorus: The Weeknd]
Who gon’ pray for me?
Take my pain for me?
Save my soul for me?
‘Cause I’m alone, you see
If I’m gon’ die for you
If I’m gon’ kill for you
Then I spilled this blood for you, hey

[Outro: Kendrick Lamar & The Weeknd]
Just in case my faith go, I’ll live by my own law
I’ll live by my own law, I’ll live by my own
Just in case my faith go, I’ll live by my own law
I’ll live by my own law, I’ll live by my own

I’ve been hearing so much about Black Panther from my friends in the States. I have not bothered to really look into it but seeing that it’s becoming such a huge hype, I feel almost like I NEED to catch up and watch this movie!
Oooooo yeahhhh I love All the Stars ❤
Also, I really like this meme, I think I'll try it out for today 😀

  2. I went to see Black Panther last week. Thought it would’t live up to the hype but I can honestly say it’s become my favourite superhero movie… although I still have a massive soft spot for Wonder Woman 😆
Hadn’t heard the full songs… just the bits in the movie. Thanks for sharing.

Love that whole soundtrack! When we watched the video for Pray for Me, I kept thinking it’s a good thing we don’t have epilepsy hahaha. Great share and you already know I saw the movie and loved it. The movie has made over a billion dollars I heard on the radio this morning! That’s so amazing!

    Have a good Monday! ❤ 🙂

Following the lyrics in the videos(which by the way were amazing), the songs have so much to say. I really loved the graphics in the first video and the talents are extreme.
I guess I’ll have to watch Black Panther when I come home and it comes out on DVD. How did the movie compare to the book?? I always wonder which is better. Many times people will say the book is better then the movie. Sometimes it works out the other way. Nice ‘Music Monday’ post Jen!

    1. They really do, don’t they? Awesome unique songs. Black Panther will be out in May and we’ll definitely be buying it so we can watch it again. 😉 That’s right around the corner. I haven’t followed this comic so I can’t say much about that. I just know the movie was awesome and they are making a second! ❤ Thanks for sharing your thoughts and checking out Music Monday. 😀

Great post. I haven’t seen it yet but I bet it beats all the blacksploitation movies. Kendrick Lamar! Wow, what can I say except he raps a beat so well. I’ve learned a lot about taking an idea and growing it into a sentence or paragraph from him. He knows writing!

    1. He totally does! This is just an all-around great album for the movie. It’s worth watching, David. I’m betting you’ll end up loving. My husband didn’t, but he’s picky with his Marvel movies and this isn’t the first he didn’t like. Lol 😀 Take Care and thanks for sharing your thoughts! ❤

  6. Well now I’m curious if every theater has the “Panther Power” or if you just won out with the old venue doing something special. Glad you enjoyed the movie and the music though! 🙂
