Meet The Reader Series with Chanel (Nel)

Hey everyone! I haven’t been keeping up with the Meet The Reader series lately and I apologize for that, but I’m so excited to share a special reader with you today!

I’m always looking for friends on Goodreads that have similar tastes. I like learning about books and discussing them with others, so I decided to experiment with an idea and thought it would be neat to find readers that I’m friends with on Goodreads or blogs and share them with you. Maybe they might be someone you’d like to add too? As I find readers with an interest, I’ll introduce them.

This is a reader that I met through WordPress and many of you already know her, but she’s become a very close friend and I can’t wait to share her reading adventures with you! Hope you enjoy!

Meet the Reader Series

Today’s Featured Reader:

Q: Did you enjoy reading as a child?

A: I very much enjoyed reading as a child. In fact I have a picture of me reading as a young tot while my mom was doing school work. I couldn’t tell you what I was reading but I’m pretty positive I was born with a book in my hand. 😉

Q: What were some of your favorite childhood books?

A: Favorite childhood books were Animorphs, Goosebumps and Beverly Cleary’s Ramona Collection.

Q: What are some of your favorite books this year (or last)?

A:  Unfortunately I’ve only read 6 books so far this year but my favorites have been Firefly by Molly McAdams, An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole and Soul Singer by Becca Andre.

Last year I had a quite a few I enjoyed. I read a lot of romantic suspense and urban fantasy so for example I loved the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews and can’t wait for the next book.

Also, the Sky Full of Stars books that I was fortunate enough to be on the review team for by Lindsay Buroker.

Q: What are your favorite book genres?

A: I love action and I love romance but I also love a good suspense so I’d say Urban Fantasy, Sci-fi, Romantic Suspense and Paranormal romance. I hope to explore and possibly get into high fantasy though this year.

Q: Who are some of your favorite authors?

A: Oh man. Well I have a favorites physical shelf so I’ll go based off them. I love Darynda Jones, Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews (which is a husband and wife team), Lindsay Buroker, Becca Andre, Judith McNaught.

Q: How many books are on your TBR shelf?

A: 270 on Goodreads currently and always growing cause I don’t follow it, haha.

Q: What’s an emotional book, or one you won’t forget that you’ve read this year or last?

A: I’m an emotional person so it doesn’t take much for me to get going but so far this year Firefly by Molly McAdams resonated the most with An Extraordinary Union following closely behind. Very strong writing in both that gave me all kinds of feels.

Q: Is there a book you really didn’t enjoy this year or last?

A: So Far this year, no. However last year I buddy read The Angel’s Share by J.R. Ward with my girl Lana and we both DNF’d it. And this comes after reading The Bourbon Kings together and we barely made it through that one. For a J.R. Ward, it was just not good.

Q: What are you reading now?

A: I‘m reading Blaze by Suzanne Wright currently.

Q: Can you share a random bookish memory?

A: I’d say my favorite bookish memory is being obsessed with the Harry Potter series as a preteen because I was gifted the first 4 books for my 12th birthday and my school introduced me to the Book It! program at Pizza Hut where I got to collect some cool HP memorabilia.

Q: The old saying states to never judge a book by its cover, but just how important is the book cover to you?

A: It all depends honestly. I’m can definitely say I’m a cover art whore and will sometimes bypass what could be a potentially good book because the cover isn’t calling me. That said however, I have been known to overlook a cover, especially coming from an indie, to read the description and realize I just might enjoy the story after all if I give it a chance.

Q: Do you have a blog? If so, what is the name?

A: I do. Her name is Reactionary Tales. 🙂

Q: Have you written anything? If not, have you ever thought about writing your own book?

downloadA: Besides research papers and poetry back in the day, I have not. I have never thought about writing my own book. I don’t think I have that kind of patience or the level of creativity it takes to write a book. Now if I were to write a biography about myself, that would come easily.

Q: Which do you enjoy more; eBooks or physical books? What about audiobooks?

A: I like both eBooks and physical books. I was strictly physical for a long time and then one day I gifted myself with a Sony E-reader and got into eBooks. Ebooks are definitely more convenient for someone as mobile as I am but since I also love supporting authors in anyway I can, if I read and loved the eBook, I go out and buy the physical book too (which is why I need more bookshelves). Audiobooks are still not for me. I hope to listen to my first one this year though. We’ll see.

Q: Where do the majority of your books come from? (Library, bookstore)

A: Library sales. My favorite! I have a site I use that tells me where all the library sales are going on for the whole year in Northeast Ohio. It’s great. I also have a membership at Books a Million and when I’m having a poor week, I’ll go to Half Price Books. I also shop on Ebay, especially for series bundles and Better World Books.

Q: Can you share a favorite quote?

Chanel shares interesting books and inspires me to read out of my comfort zone. She’s an amazing friend and has a wonderful, educational blog. Does she sound like someone you’d like to be friends with? You can find her on Goodreads by clicking HERE.

I’d like to thank Chanel for participating in the Meet The Reader Series! If you’d like to see everyone who’s participated in the Meet The Reader Series, you can click on “Meet the Reader Series” in the category section…

As always, thanks for reading! Are you a reader that would like to be interviewed? Please let me know!

    1. OMG Animorphs & Goosebumps were my jam when I was younger, too! I also loved Fear Street. I totally gushed when I met R.L. a few years ago. I was the oldest person in line aside from the parents LOL!

That’s so cool that you got to meet R.L. Stine! I bet it was hard not to stay composed from meeting your favorite author. I had one of those moments when I met Darynda Jones, haha. R.L. Stine was so legit back in the day. Think we grew up in a good book time! 🙂

        1. It was actually pretty funny. The first thing I said to him was, “I’ve been reading your books since I was a kid!” And he turns to the parents of the kids there were in front of me and goes, “See? She’s seems pretty normal.” LOL!

He certainly was legit back then. I actually have a couple of his more recent adult/YA books that I’ve been meaning to read since I haven’t actually read one of his books in a long time!

    1. Thanks so much! I learned about more than a few authors here I’ve never read. So interesting. Hahaha! Better world books is really awesome. I wish we had a half price books here where I live cause that would be nice. 😉💙 Jealous!

  4. How great!! I loved this one; Nel is such a sweetheart! 😊💗 Ramona was my favorite when I was a kid too! Nel got me hooked on the Charley Davidson series!! I bought all of them, read half in a 2 weeks, and I need to finish them this summer! Darynda Jones is fantastic. I need to read some more of her recommendations…

    1. 💜 You’re so sweet! She totally is 😁 I haven’t read that series so you’re ahead of me, but wow, I love having new authors to check out! Good to know you enjoy some of these too. You should do meet the reader! Would love to see all your answers to these.

Hope you’re having a great week so far! Take care and thanks for checking this out. ❤😘

      1. Yes, she is! It’s a great series! If I didn’t have so many ARCs to read for May and June right now, I’d read them!! I’m up to my eyeballs in ARCs…not really but more than I can handle right now with work, the kids, etc. Ugh! I’d love to do meet the reader..maybe this summer when things calm down for me (when school is over? yay!)?

It’s been a crazy week. I fell face first again like I did back in Dec-twisted my ankle, busted my left knee again, landed on my left shoulder, hit the side of my head on the corner of my loveseat, and wrenched my back (and it already has 3 herniated discs). So I’ve been doing nothing but resting since then except I have a Dr appt later today to have my knee and shoulder looked at since my knee is bruised and swollen and my shoulder is moving around funny in the socket. And they are going to take a look at my back to see what I’ve done to it this time. My neurologist wants to see me next week since that’s my 2nd fall in 4 mths just to check me out. It could be my meds making me dizzy and off balance or the lesions in my brain. who knows. I’ve always been a klutz, but this is ridiculous. So…that’s my week! I hope your week has been better than mine, lol! Talk to you soon!! 🙂 ❤

        1. I would love to do Meet the Reader with you! That would be so fun. I know my TBR would go even higher haha. 🤣 I know what you mean about ARCs. I need to get caught up but trying not to stress.

I’m sorry you had another fall! Man that is bad. I hope you’re not in any pain. We need to catch up soon. Message me! 💙💜💙

        2. We will! This summer! I’m reading some of my ARCs, just not having a chance to review them very quickly. Oh well, I will when I can. Trying not to stress like you!

Thanks! I was in pain for several days, but I’m ok now. I’m on a blog break…not sure if you saw my post last week. I’m in the Caribbean on a cruise 🛥🌊 until the end of the month and then traveling to London for work to teach a study abroad class mid May till the beginning of June, so not sure how long my blog break will last. I’ll have some scheduled reviews during May, but that’s about it. I’ll message you so we can catch up when I get back in the states! Am in St. Thomas today…🏝⛱🍹🌞💜 Posting pics on Twitter as I get a chance! ❤

  5. Wow… Beautiful idea Mischenko. I am glad I got to know Nel better now, at least I got to see her face now, it was hidden by her mobile.
Nel, beautiful honest from the heart answers. I have got to go back to Darynda and Illona, I am hoping to get to them in this summer.
Lovely photos and beautiful answers. Mischenko, I liked your questions

    1. Shalini, how nice of you to say that. 😍 It is nice to put a face to someone you talk to and get to know. I really enjoyed doing this too. So many new authors to explore.

Have a great day, Shalini! ❤
