I discovered Flower Friday last year while visiting Lorilin@Bugbugbooks and have been having a blast sharing some flower pictures and information. Please check out Lorilin’s blog if you haven’t already for book reviews and more!
Today’s flower is the Meyer Lilac!
I debated doing an extra post today, but I have to share these lilacs! I love lilacs. They have the best smell and I look forward to them every spring.
We have a few bushes around the house and they are so easy to care for. They’re also really easy to propagate into new plants and they grow super fast.
They are just coming into bloom and there’s a light aroma in the air. These particular lilacs only bloom in the spring. I do wish it lasted longer!
I can’t believe how many species of lilacs there are. I believe that these bushes I’m sharing today are Meyer Lilacs. Anyone is free to correct me if I’m wrong. 🙂
I’d love to collect a few more different types. We used to have a lilac tree just outside my childhood home and it was always so special when it bloomed. We also have some Japanese Lilacs that I’ll share later in the season when they bloom.
- Scientific name: Syringa Meyeri
- Higher classification: Oleaceae
- Native to the northern China and northern Japan
Love the smell of lilac. It’s such a pity it doesn’t last long 😦

Me too. It doesn’t last long at all! I feel the same about most of the perennials I have lol. ❤ Thanks for your comment. 🙂

Oh, I so miss the lilac! It reminds me of the rainy, fresh, early summer days of my youth (I grew up in Europe). South Africa is way too hot for lilac. Haven’t smelled it in a very long time.
There used to be this small flower shop tucked away on a small street on my way to the city center. I used to walk past it each late spring just to see and smell the lilac. That was the “official” beginning of summer!

Thats really interesting, Patricia! For us it’s such a wonderful time of the year too. 😊 I didn’t know South Africa doesn’t any lilacs.
I’m glad you enjoy this flower as well. Thanks for sharing your story! ❤💖❤

They are so easy to grow, Jennifer! We’ve even pulled off some extra growth for replanting and it just flourished! Amazing. 💖💜💖 I hope you end up planting some. 😙 Thanks!
