Occasionally I get hit with anxiety and depression and it really kicks me down. The scariest thing is not knowing how long it’s going to last or how I’ll get through it again. The goal is to fight it and get back to living as quickly as I can. I feel that music is an integral part of mental healing (for me). Here are four songs (and albums) that helped me tremendously in this last few weeks in no particular order.

Casting Crowns – Voice of Truth

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats –

Coldplay – Paradise

Fleetwood Mac – Don’t Stop

Thanks for checking out Music Monday. Do you have any feel-good songs you’d like to share? Have a wonderful week everyone!

  1. Beautiful choices, favorite M! I’m also a big Coldplay fan and there’s something always happy or relaxing about their songs. I’m sorry to hear that you have been down, but I’m glad you’ve been taking care of you. That’s the best thing you can do. ♥️ When my anxiety is too much I TRY to go outside and water the flowers, etc., or exercise with whatever top 40 music blaring. I always feel better after I do one of those things, even if it’s just a small break. Thinking of you and sending hugs. Xoxo 😘

    1. Thanks, Jenn! I try to do the same! Sometimes it does seem to help, especially exercise. I would die without my exercise. lol 😉 I’m sorry you have to deal with anxiety too. It’s such a pain sometimes! ❤ XOXO

  2. I find Paradise (Coldplay) uplifting, too!!!

If you ever need to cry to work out the sadness….

I’m far from stoic, but sometimes I withhold my tears (probably because my career has been in PR and I needed to remain focused during crises). One song that helps me cry (and therefore, helps purge my sadness) is The Sound of Silence, sung by Disturbed. The words aren’t what get me (the song is about worshiping consumerism–and remaining silent while society moves in this direction. It is sad, but the subject doesn’t make my heart ache!). What does…The delivery strikes a huge emotional cord–starting soft and personal, and then reaching a vulnerable level of painful anger/sadness. The rawness is unbelievable. I cry almost every time!!! So if you ever need to purge some emotional build-up, try the Disturbed version of this song. Touches me every time and then I feel less heavy!

Thanks for sharing your upbeat picks!!!

    1. Julia, it’s so amazing that you mention that song! Of course, the original was always my favorite, but that song….it really hits my core and I know exactly what you mean. David Draiman sings it better than the original, imo. It’s just amazing and I’m totally captivated by it. The September 11th memorial with Simon singing it tops them all for me though. Thanks so much for sharing this!! ❤

  3. Some awesome pics here Jenn. I loved Voice of Truth and Paradise. When we need something to pick us up it is wonderful that there is music out there to do that. It is such a small world as I was talking to a group of ladies this week about having faith to do what God wants us to do and we discussed David. I sent them the link to Voice of Truth. Thanks for you wonderful share.

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed this, Carla. ‘Voice of Truth’ follows me, I swear. The song says so much and it’s such a wonderful reminder that we do need to keep our faith and stay the course. I think many people (including myself) get too caught up in life and forget.

I hope they enjoyed the song and thanks for sharing that. Have you seen “Facing the Giants”, the movie? It’s so good. You’ll have to let me know. I’ll be sharing another Casting Crown’s song soon that’s very close to me.

Have a wonderful weekend, friend! So sorry I’m late getting to your comment! ❤ Happy Friday!
