A to Z Challenge: Music from Favorite Films “J” John Wick “Killing Strangers” #AtoZChallenge #JohnWick #Movies #Music

I’ve joined in for the A to Z challenge this year which runs from April 1st to the 30th. My choice of theme is Music from Favorite Films. I’ll be sharing the songs in order of film title and will write a little about my thoughts on the movie as well.

Update:

I couldn’t post yesterday because my youngest son broke his arm after dancing on a slide. Kids will be kids! Of course it had to be his dominant arm, so it’s going to be an interesting couple of months. I’m hoping to keep up with the April challenge and some book reviews, but a hiatus may be on the horizon. I apologize if things get a little quiet, but I’ll try to keep up with everyone’s posts too.

My film pick for “J” had to be John Wick. Here’s a quick summary:

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is an assassin who’s been in retirement since he married his wife Helen. After losing Helen to a terminal illness, John receives a puppy which was arranged by Helen before her death. This new puppy is helping John as he deeply mourns his wife and tries to move on. An encounter with a group of Russian mobsters leaves John beaten to a pulp after his vintage Mustang is stolen and his new puppy is killed. John becomes enraged, coming out of retirement, and setting out to take revenge on everyone responsible.

John is a man of focus, commitment, sheer will, something you know very little about.

This young mobster, losef Tarasov (Alfie Allen), obviously had no clue what he was doing when he facilitated the attack on John Wick, and did he and his gang ever make a mistake! Most people know not to mess with John Wick, the man who earned the nickname ‘Boogeyman’ after killing everyone in the way of the Russian Mafia years ago. Losef needs to find a way to kill John Wick, or die.

People keep asking if I’m back and I haven’t really had an answer. But now, yeah, I’m thinkin’ I’m back. So you can either hand over your son or you can die screaming alongside him!

This movie is intense, extremely violent, and action-packed from beginning to end. There were violent fight scenes in the movie that were difficult to watch and I found myself wincing a lot, but I had to see if John would get his revenge against this horrible Russian mob.

It’s so addictive! Of course, it’s the revenge that always pulls me in as I’ve mentioned previously, but this movie has great acting and will have you on the edge of your seat wanting more. I couldn’t wait for John Wick: Chapter Two and now the third film is coming to theaters May 17th.

I will say that if you’re a person who doesn’t like violence in movies, you might want to skip this one because it’s brutal.

The original soundtrack for John Wick is spectacular and really contributes to a satisfying cinematic experience. My song choice from the soundtrack is Marilyn Manson’s “Killing Strangers.” The video below is a little spoilery, but if you don’t want to watch the movie, this is a perfect recap. Just a warning: it does contain explicit language and violence.

Lyrics:

This world doesn’t need no opera
We’re here for the operation
We don’t need a bigger knife (a bigger knife)
Cause we got guns, we got guns, we got guns (we got guns)
We got guns, you better run
(you better run, you better run, you better run)

We’re killing strangers, we’re killing strangers
We’re killing strangers, so we don’t kill the ones that we love
We’re killing strangers, we’re killing strangers
We’re killing strangers, so we don’t kill the ones that we love

We pack demolition, we can’t pack emotion
Dynamite? We just might…
So blow us a kiss, blow us a kiss
Blow us a kiss, we’ll blow you to pieces

We’re killing strangers, we’re killing strangers
We’re killing strangers, so we don’t kill the ones that we love
We’re killing strangers, we’re killing strangers
We’re killing strangers, so we don’t kill the ones that we love

We got guns, we got guns
Mother fuckers better, better, better run
We got guns, we got guns
Mother fuckers better run
[x2]

We’re killing strangers, we’re killing strangers
We’re killing strangers, so we don’t kill the ones that we love
We’re killing strangers, we’re killing strangers
We’re killing strangers, so we don’t kill the ones that we love

You better run
Cause we got guns! Cause we got guns! We got guns!

  1. I really liked this movie. The second one I am still on the fence about. It all is going to depend on how much I like the 3rd one. If it is really good, I’ll like the second one 🙂 but if I don’t like 3, I’ll probably just pretend that John Wick was a great standalone movie.

I love Keanu Reeves. I don’t know why, but I do. Probably goes back to Bill and Ted and Point Break. He always gets a super-quotable line in his movies “You’re going down Bodie! It’s gotta be that way, man!” Anyway, John Wick is no exception. Cool film.

    1. Lol, you’re so right, Mackey. Believe it or not, out of five kids, this is our first broken bone. 😂 He’s a bit rambunctious like his dad though. He’s tolerated it well as far as pain, but it’s depressing him a bit. Hard for him to build Lego and some of his other favorite activities with it being his dominant arm. Thank you for your comment!

I love the John Wick movies and look forward to the next one. Not easy to watch because of the violence but I like the revenge theme.
Keanu Reeves is one of my favorites and fits the part of the main character so well.
Given all that, I couldn’t watch your video because of the puppy. That part was so difficult.
    🙂👍🏻

  4. I think I’ve watched this one before actually. It sounds familiar & I know I’ve seen a few action-packed Keanu Reeves movies before! I also think Marilyn Manson is pretty cool, lol.

Hope your son heals up nicely & quickly! ♡ Totally understand you need to take care of him, especially since it was his dominant one. Ouch!
