Flower Friday: Volunteer Sunflowers #FlowerFriday #Sunflowers #Flowers

I discovered Flower Friday while visiting Lorilin@Bugbugbooks and decided to begin sharing some flower pictures from our gardens along with some information about them. Please check out Lorilin’s blog if you haven’t already for book reviews and more!

Last time I shared More Hibiscus. Here are other 2019 shares:

Today’s share:

Volunteer Sunflowers

In 2019 we’ve had three volunteer sunflowers show up. This sunflower here started right next to the house in a shaded area.

What a beauty it was. It bloomed early on in July and grew to be about four feet tall. This one was fairly short-lived unfortunately.

Here’s another one, only much larger. It came up way out in the pasture. What a nice surprise with all those heads!

It’s like Christmas in August.

This sunflower ended up getting about nine to ten feet tall. Now that it’s late August and the heads are packed with seed, it’s much shorter.

The final sunflower is out in the same pasture maybe fifteen feet or so from the other. I believe it’s a lemon queen, but I can’t be sure. I’ll be sharing that one next week!

Thanks for checking out Flower Friday. Do you have any volunteer flowers this year? Feel free to share below! Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

    1. I’m not even sure who started using the name “volunteer”, but that’s what everyone seems to call seed that’s germinated the following year on its own. Those sunflowers were grown last year, but I can’t remember the name of them. I want to say “Skyscraper” but it doesn’t seem tall enough. Our sunflowers are open-polinated and could just be a mix of many. 😂 We will try to save some seed, but the birds might get there first! ❤ Thanks, Carla!
