Today’s share:
Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”
Over the weekend we watched Say Anything, one of my favorite 80s movies featuring John Cusack, Ione Skye, and Lili Taylor.
In the movie, Lloyd stands outside Diane’s house holding a large boombox which plays this song. This comes just after their breakup.
“The rain on my car is a baptism, the new me, Ice Man, Power Lloyd, my assault on the world begins now” –Lloyd Dobler
Lyrics:
Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
All my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
Love, I don’t like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes in your eyes
In your eyes in your eyes
In your eyes in your eyes

My second-favorite Peter Gabriel song of all time. It brings back so many memories. I was fortunate enough to have seen him live in concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado a few years ago and his rendition of this son against that backdrop is one of the most sensory and beautiful memories I have. Great post!

Solsbury Hill. I LOVE that song so much. It is so very personal. It came into my life when I was about 15, in conjunction with my questioning of many previously-held beliefs and falling in love with my first love, who died just a few months back and who had a huge effect on my life. So Solsbury Hill is it for me, in terms of Peter Gabriel. But my God I love In Your Eyes, too.
