On January 12th, 2018, I shared my book review for Thyroid Healing by Anthony William, and I also shared my story about how I’ve struggled with anxiety and autoimmune disease. If you haven’t seen the original post and would like to read it, you can find it by clicking here. You can also follow all of my updates by clicking the link at the top of the page.
It’s hard to believe that in January I will have been on this protocol for two years. This will be my final update for the year and probably for a while unless something significant comes up. I have a bunch of labs to share for this update and have some interesting discoveries.
So, I went back and paid a visit my holistic doctor who ran a test for vitamin D, iron and a regular CBC. Both D and iron were low which was very surprising to me; I mean, it’s no surprise the iron was low because I’m eating 95% fruits and vegetables and have issues with iron anyway, but I just wasn’t expecting it because it was fine last year. Cutting out meat might be some of the cause.
Vitamin D- I should be between 40-80.
Low iron and low D can both cause scads of problems. It’s no wonder I was dealing with the high anxiety patterns again and cyclic nagging headaches which was mentioned in my last update. I’ve been on liquid iron and vitamin D now for the last four weeks and almost instantly felt better within just a few days. These are two things I’m obviously going to have to take ongoing because they were low years ago too and I’ve been taking vitamin D all along, just in lower doses. My hematologist that I was seeing after having my last child in 2013 said that ferritin needs to be kept over 100, so I have some ways to go. My hope is that January-Feb it should be back to normal.
Anxiety is (for the most part) gone and headaches are now minimal and mild. I seem to get tension headaches fairly easily when stressed, even the good stress that comes with holidays, etc. Of course I can always feel the anxiety creeping up on me too because my brain has memorized it so well. It’s a part of me that may always be there, but it’s manageable without meds. Sometimes it seems mental healing will take me the rest of my life to figure out. I’m thinking positively though and trying to ‘count my blessings’ as my mom always says.
I also requested my doc run the Avise CTD test again which is a huge test that measures antibodies for autoimmune diseases. I’ve had this test four or five times in the last six years. It checks for RA, Sjogrens, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, Lupus, antiphosholipids, and thyroid disease, etc. Luckily, I’m still testing negative for Lupus, but I do still have a positive ANA and likely always will. I’ve recieved this borderline result the last four tests over the last five years. The very first time I had this test it was a positive result when I was experiencing cytomegalovirus.
My rheumatologist explained a few years ago that I have a good reason to have a positive ANA: Hashimoto’s disease. I also tested positive (low) for a Rheumatoid Arthritis antibody, but only one, and it’s very low. This is an antibody that signifies having more difficult to manage rheumatic disease, but it’s been positive for six years and doesn’t seem to be progressing.
Thyroid antibodies are still very high, but have come down a few hundred (200+) in numbers in the last two years. I can’t say whether or not it’s because of the Medical Medium protocol or not, but hey, I’ll take it regardless. Something interesting though is that even after starting my holistic doctors detox protocol and supplements in 2014, my thyroid antibodies were never under 600, and now they are. My CRP and Sed Rate were also negative and have been for years. This means no inflammation. It’s safe to say that I don’t have any other autoimmune diseases right now and I hope it stays that way. I highly recommend this test because it can be difficult to pinpoint which autoimmune diseases are present sometimes.
My thyroid labs are nearly back to normal now. You can see the new values below.
No medication change will be happening. I know the TSH isn’t optimal. My holistic doc disagrees with my endocrinologist because of the high FT4 and high TSH; he believes I should be given a low dose T3 because I’m not converting very well, but I’m afraid it’ll cause me heart problems and my endo doesn’t recommend it. My weight is right at 146 pounds and for being nearly six feet tall, I really shouldn’t be losing anymore weight. The 137mcg two days and the third day of 150mcg seems to be working okay for me. I’ve had minimal palpitations as well.
I’m still continuing with the Medical Medium protocol and my holistic doc has me back on my normal supplement regimen which includes Perque supplements: vitamin C, liquid iron, choline citrate, liquid D, Epa/Dha, quercetin, magnesium, and an energized vitamin. I’ll be doing the same list as in my previous update which includes celery juice every morning.
My doc also recommended that I have the ELISA food allergy test again. Honestly, I didn’t want to because of the expense, but it’s recommended that people with autoimmune disorders have this test every year, so I did. The results won’t be back for about another eight to ten days or so. I’ll have to update with that in another post. Hopefully celery won’t be on the ‘don’t eat’ list. 😂 The last time I had this test done I needed to stay away from barley, butter (all dairy), broccoli, silicone products, sulfites, blue colors, and carmine (red coloring). I also had to stop pumping gas because I had a gas derivative in my body, and also a few pesticides. I’m anxious to get those results back after avoiding all of these items for the last four years.
So, that’s it for now. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
