Christmas Lights

I was thinking about this song on Christmas when it was in the 50s with no snow, a far cry from what it was like last year and the year before. Growing up next to Lake Michigan, we rarely didn’t have snow on Christmas. Luckily, it didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would.

It’s still Christmas in our household today. We have friends coming for our annual get together, and that will be the final Christmas celebration of 2019. Following the Russian Orthodox Christmas schedule, I’ll keep up the decor until January 7th which is also my grandmother Tatiana’s birthday.

I’m hoping to fight off the ‘end of christmas’ depression as the new year rolls in. It happens to me every year because this truly is my favorite time of the year! I overheard at least three people complaining while shopping this year about how they couldn’t wait until Christmas was over because they really hate this time of year. It made me sad and I wondered: will I be like that one day? I hope I won’t…Anyway, I’m really looking forward to 2020 though and feeling very positive about the new year.

I hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! ❤

Lyrics:

Christmas night,
Another fight,
Tears we cried,
A flood
Got all kinds of poison in, of poison in my bloodI took my feet
To Oxford Street,
Trying to right a wrong
“Just walk away,” those windows say, but I can’t believe she’s gone.

When you’re still waiting for the snow to fall
It doesn’t really feel like Christmas at all

Up above candles on air flicker
Oh they flicker and they float
And I’m up here holding on to all those chandeliers of hope

And like some drunken Elvis singing
I go singing out of tune
Singing how I’ve always loved you, darling, and I always will

Oh when you’re still waiting for the snow to fall
It doesn’t really feel like Christmas at all
Still waiting for the snow to fall
It doesn’t really feel like Christmas at all

Those Christmas lights light up the street
Down where the sea and city meet
May all your troubles soon be gone
Oh Christmas lights, keep shining on

Those Christmas lights light up the street
Maybe they’ll bring her back to me
Then all my troubles will be gone
Oh Christmas lights, keep shining on

Oowwwhhhohooooowohohohoooo

Oh Christmas lights light up the street
Light up the fireworks in me
May all your troubles soon be gone
Those Christmas lights keep shining on

Thanks for checking out Music Monday! Have a beautiful week, everyone, and Happy New Year!

Great song, and a great band.
You’re not alone in feeling disappointed about the snow this December. We’re experiencing the same out here in Northern California. Last year we had several feet of snow by Christmas. This year there’s a few thin patches of rapidly melting icy snow leftover from a storm which moved through in late November. We had family up from the San Francisco area who were hoping for sledding. It was still a great Christmas though. I have a lot to be grateful for, and I’m looking forward to 2020.
    Best wishes all!

When you first played this video for me I really loved it. Now that I see the actual lyrics, makes it much easier to understand for me.
Being from a vintage(lol) generation of music sometimes one can love the newer music but not quite get the meaning. That’s why I’m pleased that you put the lyrics in your posts Jen!
And you know how I feel about snow so I won’t even go there. Ha, ha. ❄️
