Music Monday

This meme was created by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song that you really like and share it on Monday.

Last time I shared:

Toby Mac “21 Years”

This week’s share:

Mad Season

“Long Gone Day”

I’m currently reading Mark Lanegan’s new memoir Sing Backwards and Weep. There’s so much history here with mention of Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell and others. It’s really taken me back. Not only that, it’s brutally honest and eye-opening. I highly recommend it.

Mark has new music material and plenty in between, but I wanted to share an older song because it’s what’s on my mind after reading about these relationships in the book. I’ve talked about Mad Season before, but for those that don’t remember, Mad Season formed in Seattle, Washington in 1994 by members of Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees. They released only one album titled Above.

This is Mad Season with Mark and Layne on vocals. Hope you enjoy this share…

Lyrics:

So much blood I’m starting to drown
Runs from cold to colder
Time to time the sky’s come down
To help me lose my way
Tears and lies for answers
You and open veins, God knows I’m gone
Girl I just want you to
Come on down
Lord it’s a storm and I’m heading to fall
These sins are mine and I’ve done wrong, oh babe
Come on down

Long Gone Day
Mmmm, who ever said
We wash away with the rain

See you all from time to time
Isn’t it so strange
How far away we all are now
Am I the only one who remembers that summer
Oh, I remember
Everyday each time the place was saved
The music that we made
The wind has carried all of that away

Long gone day
Mmmm, who ever said
We wash away with the rain

So many tears I’m starting to drown
The rain in heaven’s all come down
Silver spoons affix the crown
The luckless ones are broken
Fears and lies for answers
You and open flames
God knows I’m gone
And I just want you to
Come on down, hmmm

Lord it’s a storm and I’m heading to fall
These sins are mine and I’ve done wrong
I want you to, oh, I just want you to
Come on down

I fear again, like then, I’ve lost my way
And shout to God to bring my sunny day

Thanks for checking out Music Monday. I hope everyone’s staying safe with all the craziness going on.

A lot of talent came out of Washington State during this time period. A lot of tragedy as well. Great song choice, Jenn. I’m going to look up Lanegan’s book.

    1. I’m so sorry. I had a plan to post that I was leaving WP and then a friend recommended I just take a break rather than delete my blog. It’s just hard keeping up with everything, so I took a break from here and a pretty large break from GR too. I appreciate your comment and promise to attempt to catch up. Everything is good though and I hope you’re well too. ❤️

      1. I can understand. Sometimes it’s just too much to keep up with writing post and then followups, interactions, reading, and supporting blogger. It takes almost whole day and still feels there’s more to do. I’m glad you didn’t remove WP and took break instead. I hope to see you around.

Good to see you post to the blog again Jen. Music Monday was always a favorite.
These lyrics definitely seem to be ‘reaching out’ don’t they?
I know how much the music from this time era means to you. 🎶
