Last time I shared: Sigur Rós “Njósnavélin”
This week’s share:
Stone Temple Pilots
“Dead and Bloated”
This was but one of the go-to rock albums in summer of ‘93 for me and still remains my most cherished STP album of all. “Dead and Bloated” is the opening song…
Lyrics:
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me on
my birthday deathbed
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me
’cause I’m dead & bloated
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me on
my birthday deathbed
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me
’cause I’m dead & bloated
Ohh yeah, and she says it’s natural
I feel I’ve come of age
When she peeks I start to run
Ohh yeah, and she says it’s natural
I feel I’ve come of age
When she peeks I start to run
You can’t swallow what I’m thinkin’
You can’t swallow what I’m thinkin’
I am trampled under sole of
another man’s shoes
Guess I walked too softly
Ohh yeah, and she says it’s natural
I feel I’ve come of age
When she peeks I start to run
Ohh yeah, and she says it’s natural
I feel I’ve come of age
When she peeks I start to run
You can’t swallow what I’m thinkin’
You can’t swallow what I’m thinkin’
I run through the world thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow, thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow
I run through the world thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow, thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me on
my birthday deathbed
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me
’cause I’m dead & bloated
I run through the world thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow, thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow
I run through the world thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow, thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow
I run through the world thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow, thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow
I run through the world thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow, thinkin’ ’bout tomorrow
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me on
my birthday deathbed
I am smellin’ like the rose
that somebody gave me, somebody gave me,
somebody gave me on
my birthday deathbed

I have to say the lyrics are definitely different. What is he actually referring to with them?
I guess, being from an earlier generation doesn’t help with this one. Yikes!
Great share Jen! 🎶

You know, everyone seems to interpret it in different ways. Some think it’s about a relationship and some about insecurity. Scott said in an interview that it wasn’t about anything specific, just subconscious thoughts. Interesting! Thanks 😊

Always an STP fan. One of the best concerts I ever saw. Great choice, Jen!

Thanks, Teri! You know, in ‘93 we saw Megadeth and I swear STP was there. They aren’t listed on my ticket though. Wish I wouldn’t seen them a few times. Thanks for sharing!

Love STP! Brings back the 90s for me like no other band.

Me too, Vanessa. It conjures up some serious nostalgia for me too. Thank you. ☺️

I never realized what the lyrics were to this song. My son loved Stone Temple Pilots and to aggravate him, I used to call them The Stone Cold Pylons.

Lol! 😂😂 That’s too funny, Carla. What made you think of it?

I think the first time was a mistake and he got so mad, I kept it up. After a while he realized I was doing it to get a rise out of him and he started saying it too.
