Music Monday

This meme was created by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song that you really like and share it on Monday.
Last time I shared Steve Winwood “Back in the High Life”
This week’s share:
Chris Stapleton
“Fire Away”
I’ve contemplated sharing this song’s video for some time now. It’s one of my favorite Chris Stapleton songs, but the video gives it a whole different meaning. It brings awareness to mental health, which to me is very important.
My husband and I are huge Ben Foster fans. He acts as the police officer character in this video. Due to the nature of this, I’ll warn ahead of time that it deals with mental illness and suicide.
Lyrics:
Honey load up your questions
And pick up your sticks and your stones
And pretend I’m a shelter for heartaches that don’t have a home
Choose the words that cut like a razor
And all that I’ll say is
[Chorus:]
Fire away
Take your best shot
Show me what you got
Honey, I’m not afraid
Rear back and take aim
And fire away
Well, I wish I could say
That I’ve never been here before
But you know and I know
That I’ll always come back for more
Your love might be my damnation
But I’ll cry to my grave
[Chorus x2]
From the album:
“Traveller” 2015
Thanks for checking out Music Monday. Take care and have a wonderful week!
♥️ Mischenko
You keep hitting these out of the park, Mischenko💜 I’m late to the Chris Stapleton party and learning more about his songs and songwriting. This is just lovely.

Thanks, Jo. Isn’t he amazing? Try “Friendship,” “When the Stars Come Out,”and “Tennessee Whiskey” if you haven’t yet. I’m not a huge country fan, but he really is something. ❤️ Enjoy your week.

I’m not a huge country fan either so it takes a lot to get my attention in this genre. Thanks for the recommendations as the only one I was familiar with was Tennessee Whiskey, which I love.

I’m profoundly touched by deaths of despair. Wish we all could take a moment to lend an ear or a hand to those suffering alone. Thanks for sharing a reminder.
Btw, “No Hard Feelings” by the Avett Brothers is suggested by YouTube. What a great genre of music!

Me too, David. Yeah, YouTube does that too me! I get stuck in a spiral of watching videos for hours. 😂 They know what they’re doing. Have a good week. 😉

I’m not a country music fan, but hubby is, and he’s a fan of this artist. I like how you share such a wide variety of music!

I’m not a big country person either, but there’s something about Chris Stapleton that pulls me in—from the very first song I ever heard. There really isn’t any genre of music I won’t listen to though. Thanks, Teri!

Such a moving song! Living in the south, you’d think I’d be a country music fan. But, despite my husband’s insistence that I’m a closeted fan, I sadly am not – well except the crossover to pop songs. I usually love them. Thank you for bringing me a little of something I wouldn’t ordinarily know about. ❤️

How funny! Like you, I’m not a huge country fan either, but my husband is a country boy through and through. I do have some select favorites though. Hopefully you find some by Chris that appeal to you. He’s such a diverse artist, and all of his songs have so much meaning to them. I was recommending some songs to Jo in the comments. Maybe you might like a few of those. Take care, Tessa, and thanks for your thoughts. ❤️

Country music seems too always tell a story be it happy or sad. I love Chris Stapleton as an artist! His music and his voice are both strong and touch the soul for sure.
Thx for sharing Jen! 🎵

Wow, what a strong message. For me what hit was that we never know what someone is dealing with behind closed doors. I think about so many who have taken their own lives but smiled and looked like they were happy in public. Thanks for sharing this one.

So true, Carla. I grew up in what my grandfather always called a ‘depressed area’ of northern Indiana. It’s happened to a few people I used to know and more often than not, it’s been too late. Thanks for checking out Music Monday. ❤️ Hugs
