This week’s share:
BJ Thomas -Tribute
“Hooked on a Feeling” and other favorites
It was sad to learn that BJ Thomas passed away over the weekend. Here’s an artist that became popular before I was born in the 70s. He’s had many hits, including one that I heard almost everyday growing up: “As Long As We Got Each Other,” the theme song for Growing Pains, one of my favorite shows from childhood. One that my grandfather loved was “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.” I can still remember him dancing around and singing the song. Another familiar song I can remember hearing on the radio as a child is “I Just Can’t Help Believing.”
“Hooked on a Feeling” was originally performed by BJ Thomas, but it became popular once again with the release of the film, Guardians of the Galaxy. The difference is that the rendition used for the movie was covered by Blue Swede. Hope you all enjoy these shares today.
Lyrics:
I can’t stop this feeling
Deep inside of me
Girl, you just don’t realize
What you do to me
When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything’s all right
I’m hooked on a feeling
I’m high on believing
That you’re in love with me
Lips as sweet as candy
Its taste is on my mind
Girl, you got me thirsty
For another cup of wine
Got a bug from you girl
But I don’t need no cure
I’ll just stay a victim
If I can for sure
All the good love
When we’re all alone
Keep it up girl
Yeah, you turn me on
I’m hooked on a feeling
I’m high on believing
That you’re in love with me
All the good love
When we’re all alone
Keep it up girl
Yeah, you turn me on
I’m hooked on a feeling
I’m high on believing
That you’re in love with me
I’m hooked on a feeling
And I’m high on believing
That you’re in love with me
I said I’m hooked on a feeling
And I’m high on believing
That you’re in love with me
I’m hooked on a feeling
Lyrics:
Raindrops are falling on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothing seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling
So I just did me some talking to the sun
And I said I didn’t like the way he got things done
He’s sleeping on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep fallin’
But there’s one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me
Won’t defeat me
It won’t be long ’till happiness steps up to greet me
Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turning red
Crying’s not for me
‘Cause, I’m never gonna stop the rain by complaining
Because I’m free
Nothing’s worrying me
It won’t be long ’till happiness steps up to greet me
Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turning red
Crying’s not for me, ’cause,
I’m never gonna stop the rain by complaining
Because I’m free
Nothing’s worrying me
Lyrics:
Show me that smile again
Oh, show me that smile
Don’t waste another minute on your cryin’
We’re nowhere near the end
We’re nowhere near
The best is ready to begin
All in a cloudy daze
I look into your eyes and see them shining out
Holding you close this way
Holding you this way
Is like having summer everyday
Ooh, ooh
As long as we got each other
We got the world spinnin’ right in our hands
Baby, you and me
We gotta be
The luckiest dreamers who never quit dreamin’
As long as we keep on givin’
We can take anything that comes our way
Baby, rain or shine
All the time
We got each other
Sharin’ the laughter and love
Promise me here and now
Nothing but jokes
Will never come between us
You can depend on me
‘Cause I need you like the air I breathe
Oh, oh
As long as we got each other
We got the world spinnin’ right in our hands
Baby, you and me
We gotta be
The luckiest dreamers who never quit dreamin’
As long as we keep on givin’
We can take anything that comes our way
Baby, rain or shine
All the time
We got each other
Sharin’ the laughter and love
As long as we got each other
We got the world spinnin’ right in our hands
Baby, you and me
We gotta be
The luckiest dreamers who never quit dreamin’
As long as we keep on givin’
We can take anything that comes our way
Oh, baby, rain or shine
All the time
We got each other
Sharin’ the laughter and love
I just can’t help believing
When she smiles up soft and gentle,
With a trace of misty morning,
And a promise of tomorrow in her eyes…
And I just can’t help believing
When she’s lying close beside me
And my heart beats with the rhythm of her sigh…
This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay…
For more than just a day
I just can’t help believing
When she slips her hand in my hand
And it feels so small and helpless
That my fingers fold around it like a glove…
And I just can’t help believing
When she’s whispering her magic
And her tears are shining honey sweet with love…
This time the girl is gonna stay (This time the girl is gonna stay)
This time the girl is gonna stay…
For more than just a day
For more than just a day…
(I just can’t help believing…)
Thanks for checking out Music Monday. What’s your favorite BJ Thomas song? Take care and have a wonderful week!

Great tribute post, Jen. Another blogger I follow posted about his death yesterday, which I did not know about. I listened to several of his songs in a bit of a marathon, but you have a couple I want to listen to again today. I was a teenage in the 70s and loved his songs, although he wasn’t someone I would say I listened to, funny. The other day when it was raining I started singing Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head and my granddaughter asked if I could play the real song, (apparently my singing didn’t do it for her) so we listened to it a couple of times. B.J. Thomas left us with a lot of wonderful music.

It’s interesting that you say that because when I saw his name on the news over the weekend, it didn’t ring a bell. He wasn’t someone I followed, but the sound of his voice in these songs makes me reminisce. There wasn’t a single episode of Growing Pains that I missed. 😂 Over the weekend I started learning more about him with his Christian and Country songs too.
That’s wonderful that you listened to the song with your granddaughter. What a sweet story! Thanks for checking out the post and sharing your memories, Carla.

Wonderful tribute, Mischenko💜 I’d forgotten how many of his songs were part of my musical memories. He had the art of songwriting and the talent to sing them.

Thank you, Jo. ❤️ Would you believe it if I told you he didn’t write any of these songs? I had no clue until I started doing research this morning. He did make all of them popular though. I originally thought Blue Swede were the creators of “Hooked on a Feeling” until I went back and listened to the original by BJ Thomas and learned it wasn’t technically his song either. It’s weird because my family and I watch a lot of talent shows, and they always talk about how artists need to write their own songs in order to be successful. More and more I notice that the songs we fall in love with don’t even belong to the artists themselves. Anyway, I thought you might find that interesting.

Yes, I’m shocked! Back in the day, he was positioned as having something to do with writing them (or I inferred it!).

It’s sad. We’ve lost so many great artists in the last year or so. Thanks for listening, Mae.

Oh, wow, M. So many memories. My dad used to sing Raindrops to us on road trips. He is a trained vocalist, and he loved that song. Also, of course I love Growing Pains and can sing that opener by heart. Kirk Cameron posters all over my walls! I never put it together that these songs were from the same person. Thank you for this special post. ♥️

Jen, how sweet! I didn’t know he’s a trained vocalist. My grandfather sang it all the time too. He was the type to sing and dance all around our home growing up. I didn’t realize how much I appreciated it when I was younger until he was gone, and I missed it so much. At Christmas, when we listen to Bing and Sinatra and Perry Como, I swear I can still hear him. He had such a wonderful voice.
Another Kirk Cameron fan! I miss that show so much. I wonder if you’ve seen the movie, Fireproof? It’s a favorite.
Thanks for sharing your memories, Jen. I love it. Hope you’re doing well, friend. ❤️

What a lifetime starting so young. I didn’t watch Growing Pains but his songs and lyrics were unique to him only . So sad he passed but his music will be with us forever. Thx for sharing Jen!
