Music Monday

This meme was created by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek. You pick a song that you really like and share it on Monday.
Last week’s share:
Genesis “Throwing It All Away”
This week’s share:
Bee Gees
“Jive Talkin’”
It’s nice to have something upbeat to start the week! This song just makes me want to dance. It’s said to be their comeback song of 1975. This was before I was born, but I imagine people just went crazy over it with the developing disco trend.
The rhythm for this song was actually inspired by the chunka-chunka-chunka sound of a car rolling over a bridge crossing Biscayne Bay near Miami. I read this morning that the Bee Gees went over this bridge on their way to Criteria Studios, where they were recording the Main Course album. Robin Gibb told The Mail On Sunday November 1, 2009: “We’d already thought up the title for this song, but it wasn’t until Barry, Maurice and I drove from Biscayne Bay to Miami that we realized what the tune was going to be. We had the idea as we passed over a bridge. Some tar noises made a rhythmic sound on the wheels of our car, which created the feel to the type of song we wanted to write. We finished the song at the Criteria Studios that day.”
Lyrics:
It’s just your jive talkin’
you’re telling me lies, yeah
Jive talkin’
you wear a disguise
Jive talkin’
so misunderstood, yeah
Jive talkin’
You really no good
Oh, my child
You’ll never know
Just what you mean to me
Oh, my child
You got so much
You’re gonna take away my energy
With all your jive talkin’
You’re telling me lies, yeah
Good lovin’
Still gets in my eyes
Nobody believes what you say
It’s just your jive talkin’
That gets in the way
Oh my love
You’re so good
Treating me so cruel
There you go
with your fancy lies
Leavin’ me lookin’
like a dumbstruck fool
with all your
Jive talkin’
You’re telling me lies, yeah
Jive talkin’
You wear a disguise
Jive talkin’
so misunderstood, yeah
Jive talkin’
you just ain’t no good
Love talkin’
is all very fine, yeah
Jive talkin’
Just isn’t a crime
And if there’s somebody
You’ll love till you die
then all that jive talkin’
just gets in your eye
Jive talkin’
You’re telling me lies,yeah
Good lovin’
Still gets in my eyes
Nobody believes what you say
It’s just your jive talkin’
That gets in the way
Love talkin’
Is all very fine, yeah
Jive talkin’, just isn’t a crime
and if there’s somebody
You’ll love till you die
then all that jive talkin’
just gets in your eye
Jive talkin’

Yep, Barry Gibb reminds me so much of Russell Thompkins Jr too. I’m always captivated listening to both of them. Glad you like this one too, David. Have a wonderful week. 😀

Jive Talking – wow! That’s definitely an oldie. But, you can’t go wrong starting your week off with the BeeGees and practicing your retro disco moves 🤣

I grew up with the BeeGees. The Gibb brothers had a knack for turning a hit. I still have a bunch of their stuff on my playlist today.

Me too, Michael. I remember hearing them on the radio growing up and then watching Saturday Night Fever with their music. That’s awesome that you still listen to them. 😀

Haven’t heard this one in years! Hubby is a big Bee Gees fan – a friend was just kidding him about it yesterday, lol.

How funny! We actually have a few LP’s and there are so many songs I wasn’t even familiar with. It’s cool that your husband is a big fan. It would’ve been nice to see them in a live show. 😊

Any song that makes me want to get out on the dance floor is okay in my book. Happy Music Monday, Mischenko!

This brings back my teenage years (yes, I am that old). I loved the Bee Gees and was singing along with this one, I think my windows were rattling. I love the information about how they came up with the tune for this one. Great share Jen.

I remember their early days (yes I’m that old) when they didn’t sing disco).
