There are plenty of books on my TBR that I’m looking forward to reading. I decided to share them as “Future Reads” every once in a while because it’s fun to look ahead. These are books I plan to read this year. Maybe you might want to add some of these books to your TBR as well!
Today’s share is:
Spindle’s End by Robin McKinley

Why this book?
Beauty is the only book I’ve read by Robin McKinley, and it inspired me to look into some of her other works, including Spindle’s End. The writing in Beauty and the way she made it her own is what captured me. There were some things I didn’t love about it, but it was still an enjoyable read for the retelling challenge.
I’ve had Spindles’s End on my list for some time. Fairy tales, folktales, and retellings are always on my radar. Even the cover caught my eye! I recently found a first edition, hardcover copy on eBay for a reasonable price.
Some friends on Goodreads rated this as low as two stars, but I’m still hopeful it will be an enjoyable read.
Blurb:
All the creatures of the forest and field and riverbank knew the infant was special. She was the princess, spirited away from the evil fairy Pernicia on her name-day. But the curse was cast: Rosie was fated to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a poisoned sleep-a slumber from which no one would be able to rouse her.
In the tradition of Beauty and Rose Daughter, Robin McKinley “lends a fresh perspective to a classic fairy tale, developing the story of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ into a richly imagined, vividly depicted novel.”

I love Robin McKinley’s fairy tale books! I know I loved this one, but it’s been long enough ago that I’m fuzzy on the plot details. I just recently scored a beautiful used hardcover at a local bookstore too, so I have added incentive to read it again! I also loved Beauty, Rose Daughter, and Deerskin. Her writing is just gorgeous!

I love Spindle’s End. Hope you have a wonderful time with it too. I love much the world is infused with magic and also love how McKinley made this fairytale her own. And the writing is wonderful too.
