Five Questions from Janie:

I want to ride on a Segway city tour and what better place than New Orleans!

Evening-Segway-Tour2_list.png

2 – How would you describe yourself in a few words?

Funny (I try), caring, and compassionate.

3 – What is your favorite book genre? Your least favorite?

This is hard, but I’ll go with non-fiction in general. I love a good memoir. My least favorite is sports, although, if it’s a book about the Patriots, I’m in!

tenor (1).gif

Hanging out with my family, watching a great show on Netflix, or reading.

5 -What is your guiltiest pleasure?

FOOD! I love to bake!

Link to my best post:

I chose the YA book rating post last time because it was fresh and seemed to be a topic many people wanted to comment on. This time, I’ll choose my post regarding Carol Buckley. Carol is the founder of the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee and also founded Elephant Aid International. I did an interview with her and you can see the post HERE if you are interested. You’ll learn about her elephant Tarra and where she is now, as well as what Carol is doing to help elephants around the world.

One Lovely Blog Award #2 – Music Edition

collage-2017-09-21 (1)

I was nominated by TheOrangutanLibrarian for the One Lovely Blog Award. I admire the way this award was done as a “music” edition, and because I’ve done this award before, I thought I’d stick with the music edition and share 7 musical facts about myself. I’d like to thank The Orangutan Librarian for nominating me! If you haven’t checked out this blog yet, please do! You’ll find many book reviews, book lists, tags, awards, and more.

THE RULES FOR THE ONE LOVELY BLOGGER AWARD

  1. Each nominee must THANK the person who nominated them and link their blog in the post.
  2. They must include the rules and add the blog award badge as an image.
  3. Must add 7 facts about themselves and then nominate 15 people.

~7 Musical Facts About Me~

#1 – When I was a kid, my room was pink and I despised it. I covered as much as I could with posters from my favorite bands along with other embellishments to try and make my room look cool. Music was pretty much my life and I enjoyed listening to it and creating my own.

20170921_113408.jpg

#2 – As you can see in the photo above, I had colored my hair blue. Of course, now, it’s nothing to see someone with colored hair, but back then it was still very rare in my community. My best friend and I used to love hanging out at this store in Chi-town called The Alley, which is where my love for hair dye started. I was the first person in my school to color my hair a different color and my band teacher was very upset with me because we had a concert coming up.

giphy.gif

Wow, she was extremely upset. Looking back now, I do feel bad about it! She was my favorite teacher and I really respected her, I just wanted to color my hair blue! She actually teaches at a local university and I ran into her a few times when I was in college. She doesn’t seem to be mad about it anymore. 🙂 Phew!

#3 – I listen to nearly every music genre, but my favorite will probably always be grunge and I’ve been told that I’m still living in the 90s.

A few favorites from the 90s:

#4 – When I was a child, my grandfather would sing songs to me out of this Reader’s Digest Songbook which I still have. I think this is where my love for music started.

il_570xN.596008490_8sby.jpg

#5 – When I was in high school band, we went downstate for competition and I won various awards including this really cool Musicianship Award.

20170921_131047.jpg

#6 – I discovered a music group called Walk Off the Earth last year. I adore them and find them extremely creative. If you haven’t seen them before, check out this video! It’s amazing. They play a cover of the song “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye using only one instrument!

#7 We went to see Shrek the Musical a while back. It was amazing! It was my first live musical and I was in awe the entire time. We were able to take pictures with the cast afterward which was really fun for the kids to get to meet everyone. It was such a fun experience.

Rules:

  • Announce your win with a post, and link the blogger who nominated you.
  • Include the featured image on your blog post.
  • Nominate 10 bloggers (or as many as you can think of) and link your awardees in the post.
  • List 7 things you love about yourself. (This can be about your appearance, your personality, your achievements, etc.)
  • Don’t use negative connotation (i.e. Don’t say things like – “I’m prettier than an average person.” or “People have told me I’m smart.” You are pretty. You are smart.)

7 Things I love about myself:

I had a long paragraph written about why it’s difficult to pick out 7 things that I love about myself, but I deleted it and I’m just going for it!

I’m healthy –  Four years ago I wasn’t. I took control and healed my body. I don’t want to talk too much about this because I already have in previous posts, but I’m happy that I don’t have to feel sick all the time, I’m off meds, and mainly just deal with fatigue at this point.

giphy (1).gif

I can fix things – Since I was a child, I’ve always been a fix it Felix. I love to take things apart and figure out how to fix them. I have this old Halloween snow globe that stopped working a few years ago and I finally opened it up last year and fixed it. I’m really happy about it because it’s one I couldn’t replace.

original.gif

I’m a problem solver – I feel like I’m a fairly good problem solver and also improvise well. In a college computer science course, we had to figure out this complex problem involving the distance a fly traveled around a room and I was one in a small group of people to figure it out. That made me feel awesome and really boosted my self-confidence.

giphy (2).gif

I’m a good mom – I put my kids first and try to be the best mom I can be.

giphy (3).gif

I’m Creative – I enjoy creating things and have skills in sewing & quilting, crafts, drawing, painting, and needle arts like crochet and knitting. I’ve had my hands in most types of art and I love that.

20170908_081157.jpg
A wall quilt I recently made

I’m Unique – Everyone’s unique in their own way and this is something I love about myself. I love that I’m my own person, unique, and I don’t have to conform to be what someone else wants me to be.

I’m loving – I consider myself a loving person, caring, and compassionate to others.

Misty’s Questions:

Q: If you had to choose, would you rather be a vampire or a werewolf? (Yes I am stealing this question from Irena because I am curious about what others would choose.)

A: Oh, that’s easy! Vampire of course!

Cz6g2S8.gif

Q: What is your favorite kind of bookish merch?

A: I love bookmarks and bags mostly!

Q: If you could only be active on one social media site which would you choose?

A: Hands down -Goodreads!

Q: Do you have any pets? If so I would love to see some pictures of them.

A: I do have many pets. Here are some pictures…

Cynder Rae and Mr. Winston

Q: What is your least favorite book of 2017 so far?

A: I’m beating the dead horse with this one, but The Happiest Mommy You Know.

Q: Who is your all time favorite author?

A: Totally unfair! I can’t pick just one. One of them is Jodi Picoult.

Q: Do you have any auto buy authors besides your favorite author?

A: Hmm, I mainly go with favorite authors unless it’s a series I’m reading. If it’s someone that I know that’s written another book, I’ll buy it.

Q: What is your biggest bookish pet peeve?

A: Book abuse. I can’t stand to see new books mistreated. I can deal with vintage books that have wear from the shelf and torn dust jackets because it’s to be expected, but not caring for new books is a big one.

http-%2F%2Fmashable.com%2Fwp-content%2Fgallery%2Fbook-lovers%2Fharry-potter-large-book.gif

Q: How many books are on your physical TBR pile?

A: You really don’t want to know. On Goodreads, I’m pushing 10,000. At home, with what I have on my shelves, it’s probably 200 or so…

Q: What is your all time favorite movie?

A: It’s so hard to choose just one. I’ll go with Gladiator. I love everything about that movie and the soundtrack is beautiful. Russell Crowe, Richard Harris, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Neilsen, and Djimon Hounsou are all favorites. Here’s a summary of the movie that does have spoilers and it’s also fairly gory. I’ve never grown tired of this song with Lisa Gerrard. Every time I hear her voice, I’m captivated. You can hear the entire song during this recap of the movie.

Q: Villains or Heros? (Yes I kind of took this from Irena as well sorry she made me curious.)

A: I feel like you really have to like both, right? I always love a good hero though.

winter-snow-nature-animated-gif-27.gif

Alex’s Questions:

Recommend one bookstore you love and tell us why you love it?

I love used book sales, but my favorite (and only semi-local) bookstore is Barnes & Noble. I just love that place and I can get stuck there for hours. It’s about a 50-minute drive and honestly, most of my books come from Amazon Prime or local sales because of that.

What were the last three books you bought?

Wonder, Talon of God, Roar.

If you’d win the lottery right now, what would be the first thing you would do?

Right now, I’d be donating a huge portion to Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations in need.

If you could be any animal for one day, which one would it be?

If I had to be an animal for a day, I would choose a dog. I could be loving and supportive to my owner.

How would your perfect library/reading room look like?

I would say a dark, low-lit room with books from wall to wall. Sort of like the Beast’s library.

The Rules:

  • Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  • Answer the questions.
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
  • Ask them 3 questions.

Darque Dreamer’s Questions:

1. What is one thing you feel is unique about your blog, or a unique idea you plan to implement later?

I enjoy doing my Lesson’s from Grandpa posts and I feel like those are fairly unique. These are lessons that I learned from my grandfather, some that I need to remind myself about often. I feel that these might help others as well.

2. Name a unique music artist.

giphy (2).gif

So I’m going with Young The Giant because they are definitely unique. They have a crunchy and electronic sound and at the same time, I can hear undertones of other bands like Cold War Kids, The Lumineers, and even Coldplay. It’s quite amazing.

And if the world don’t break
I’ll be shakin’ it
‘Cause I’m a young man after all
And when the seasons change
Will you stand by me?
‘Cause I’m a young man built to fall

3. Tell me about a unique book you have read, or movie you have watched, and why was it unique?

Definitely, have to go with the movie Interstellar starring  Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Michael Caine. It’s definitely mind bending and unlike any other movie I’ve seen! If you haven’t watched it, try it out. You’ll be surprised…

Summary: In Earth’s future, a global crop blight and second Dust Bowl are slowly rendering the planet uninhabitable. Professor Brand (Michael Caine), a brilliant NASA physicist, is working on plans to save mankind by transporting Earth’s population to a new home via a wormhole. But first, Brand must send former NASA pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and a team of researchers through the wormhole and across the galaxy to find out which of three planets could be mankind’s new home.

Roda’s Questions:

1. What would you describe as your perfect moment?

My perfect moment was the day I received my test results that showed that a serious autoimmune disease I had developed was in remission and possibly gone forever. All because I took my health seriously and did what I needed to survive. At that moment I realized that everything I’d gone through was worth it and I just needed to trust myself. At one point, my future was uncertain and I didn’t know if I’d be here to raise my kids or not. None of us are guaranteed time, but we can be in control of our health. I feel that I took control and learned how to truly heal my body which was an educational experience in itself.

giphy.gif

2. Describe the person you aim to be in five sentences or less.

I want to be the best mom & wife I can be, caring and compassionate to others, while being fun and positive to be around.

giphy (3).gif

3. What is the one thing you love most about YOU!?

I love that I’m “finally” strong-minded and have become much more self-confident. It took me like FOREVER to get this way and it’s a work in progress, but I feel good in knowing that I believe in myself.
