This Week’s Pick:

Walking Disaster (Beautiful #2)

15745950.jpg

Blurb: Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.

In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.

My Thoughts:

My very first Throwback Thursday featured the first book in the ‘Beautiful’ series titled Beautiful Disaster. I thought I’d share the second book in the series which is told from Travis’s point of view.

This book reveals Travis’s story and begins back when he was just three years old with the passing of his mother. As Travis grows older he endures many stuggles including an alcoholic father. As a college student he dates plenty of women, but never falls in love, until the moment he meets Abby. His world turns upside down as he tries to figure her out and win her heart at the same time.

“Maybe it was just me. Maybe it was just me and her. Maybe together we were this volatile entity that would either implode or meld together. Either way, it seemed the moment I met her, my life had been turned upside down. And I didn’t want it any other way.”

I honestly didn’t know what to expect with this one because of the fact that it’s basically the same story told in the first book, but it turned out to be much more than that. There were new scenes included and readers will obtain a deep understanding into what’s made Travis the the way that he is and just how much he truly loves Abby.

This is a page turner that’s written well and easy to read. The characters are so full of depth and emotion, you become part of them. Jamie McGuire remains one of my favorites and I want to read everything she writes.

My rating on this one is 5*****

I’ve been seeing this one around for a while now and became inspired by my friend Noriko@DiaryofaBookfiend this morning after she picked a book that really brought back some memories. I thought it would be fun to bring back a book from last year that I enjoyed. This is my first Throwback Thursday and I chose a book that will always be a favorite. I hope that you might find an interest in it as well.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Blurb: The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

TAG: The TBR Tag

I’ve been seeing this tag a lot lately, but recently read about it at Nel’s wonderful blog@ ReactionaryTales.com. Please visit Nel’s blog if you haven’t already. She’s a great friend to have with a blog full of interesting content!

Questions:

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

I don’t. I consistently add to my TBR and don’t worry about it.

Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?

It’s mixed, but mostly print. I don’t really pay attention to editions and formats. If I see a book I want to read, I just click it.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

I don’t. I have so many books lined up that I rarely visit my TBR. I just read what I know is next in line with some occasional change ups.

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest.

I believe it’s Jamie McGuire’s Red Hill #1. I joined GR in 2008, but didn’t add books to my TBR until roughly 2013.

A book that you recently added to your TBR.

The Collector by John Fowles. It sounds pretty dark and it’s been awhile since I’ve read something like this.

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover.

The entire Splintered Series by A.G. Howard.

Splintered

I do plan to read them. 🙂

A book on your TBR that you NEVER plan on actually reading.

Brand VS Wild by Johnathan Lewis

I’m not a business woman or involved in business in general. I’m not sure why I added this one, but it’s not one that I would rush to read and probably won’t read at all. No offense to the author! I’m sure it’s a great book.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for.

Ugly Beautiful Girl by Tracy Krimmer

I just found this at Donna’s blog @ Bookdragongirl.com! Excited. 🙂

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you.

The Hobbit, but I’m reading it with my 9-year-old right now. Does that count? 😉

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

11505797Jamie McGuire is one of my favorite authors and Beautiful Disaster has to be one of my favorite books. I still remember the first time I read it six years ago or so. I’ve read it more than once if that tells you anything.

The story is about a girl named Abby who’s your typical good girl type. She meets Travis who is just the type of guy she would normally avoid, but she can’t. Travis winds up falling for her immediately. He makes a bet with her and if she loses, she must live with Travis for a month. The chemistry between Travis and Abby is intoxicating. She acts as though she can’t stand him, but inside she’s falling for him too.

Travis comes off as a total bad boy and that’s probably what I liked about his character. He seems aggressive at times, but I believe this is the author’s way of showing how protective he is over Abby.

I loved it. I love the writing and it’s a super quick read that I didn’t want to put down. I think one of the reasons I liked it so much is because it reminds me of the types of books I enjoyed reading when I was much younger. This book is what made Jamie McGuire one of my favorite authors from the start. I really like all the Maddox brothers, but Travis is my fave…
