My review:

The Slippery Slope, book number ten in A Series of Unfortunate Events, begins right where book nine left off. It’s as terrifying as ever with poor little Sunny Baudelaire now separated from her older siblings and in Count Olaf’s clutches. Not only is Sunny in danger, but Violet and Klaus are in their own horrifying predicament: speeding down the Mortmain Mountains in an uncontrolled caravan. As they descend further and further away from Sunny, they scramble to concoct a plan, and contemplate when and if they’ll be reunited with Sunny again.

Violet and Klaus moved closer to one another, and felt the icy winds of the Mortmain Mountains blow down the road less traveled and give them goosebumps. They looked at the dark and swirling waters of the Stricken Stream, and they looked down from the edge of the peak into the mist, and then looked at one another and shivered, not only at the fates they had avoided, but all the mysterious fates that lay ahead.

In this installment, the Baudelaires arrive at Caligari Carnival after hitching a ride in Count Olaf’s trunk. Their plan, as usual, is to seek safety from Count Olaf, but they soon discover that there’s nowhere to go, and Count Olaf will be in the vicinity for some time to come. They take a huge chance by disguising themselves as freaks in order to participate in Caligari Carnival’s freak show (Violet and Clause as a two-headed freak, and Sunny as Chabo the Wolf Baby), which lands them working right alongside Count Olaf.

Changes Coming and What I’m Reading…

I thought I’d do a quick post to talk about what I’m reading right now and some of the changes that are happening here…

I’ll start with the changes that are happening with my blog…Those that follow me may have noticed that I recently switched to a wordpress.com account. I chose to downgrade and removed over 300 posts along with tons of media to get to a lower paid plan. After downgrading, I realized that none of my links were working and it was a huge mess. I’ve now gone back to http://www.readrantrockandroll.com and will be staying with that for now. Some posts are still a mess and are missing images. I’m working on it…

After escaping the village of V.F.D. and freeing themselves from Count Olaf’s clutches once again, the Baudelaire children are now on their own. They find themselves at a convenience store in the middle of nowhere with the hope of getting a message to Mr. Poe. The issue now is that they need to stay as covert as possible because it’s been published in the local newspaper (The Daily Punctilio) that they’re dangerous murderers. After another narrow escape, they end up at Heimlich Hospital where they find an interesting and shocking clue regarding the fire that killed their parents. With Violet Baudelaire in serious trouble, Klaus and Sunny have to scramble up a plan to save her, but how can they possibly save her all alone? Will Count Olaf finally be captured, or will his ridiculous shenanigans continue? The Vile Village

My thoughts:

After finishing up The Ersatz Elevator, we couldn’t wait to start this installment with hopes that the Baudelaires would find a way to locate and save their friends the Quagmire triplets. The book begins with the Baudelaires once again in Mr. Poe’s incompetent hands as he attempts to find them a new and safe home. This time, he’s exhausted all options and finds it extremely difficult locating a place for them. The children are informed that they’ll be living at V.F.D, a.k.a. The Village of Fowl Devotees, where there are rules for pretty much everything under the sun. This particular town believes in the aphorism, “It takes a village to raise a child” which is the entire basis for taking the children in. My thoughts on this book:

We took a break after book five again, and it felt great to get back into the series. This installment turned out to be one of our favorites yet.
